I'm so sorry I didn't buy a bass years ago, but sad when I heard and saw the tabs for '' Heart of gold'' , because I can just about play that now but the intro on the harp was like pissing the bed to my ear and mouth. My lung hasn't the rhythm! Great fun though. I nailed Careless Whisper, sustained notes, sliding bits, except for that two second bit, with six notes! Tom Petty tunes are easy to get the jist of or just play right the first time. A big boost of noise and daytime radio editing for many of the Tom Petty tunes. It's turning shit into caviar, inorganic. It's brutal nowadays. It's given me a great education already. I only listen to radio at night, a very good show with some strange styles that don't fit any genre, a lot of jazz, rare blues, lesser known acts and cultural music from every corner of the earth. So, after listening for nearly twenty years I know Schubert from Brahms and I'll know, have a good guess at the composer even if I haven't heard the music, buy their style.Delta, Mississippi,Chicago,Boogie woogie and inbetween. A man could practice an instrument for six hours a day, and after a few years he still won't know a fraction of the geniuses out there.     When I see tricky tabs (for me)and I want to give it a go, it's usually late at night, but I hold the bass sort of upright, sitting down and I don't look at the fret board much. I just try follow ,knowing I haven't a hope but it's fun when I get some bit right. Like all Sade,Stevie Wonder or Sister Sledge tunes. It kind of enlightened me with the intricacy of music I assumed was mediocre, and vice versa. Also confirmed a few underlying thorns in my side regarding the world of the arts. Phil Lynott wrote nice bass lines but his work on War of the World's was brilliant, loose. Steely Dan were even better than I thought and now I'm sorry I didn't go see Donald Fagan when I was in my twenties.  The Who were not that great, nor were the Cranberries or U2, etc. It's depressing, so many famous but poor acts with loads of big productions thrown in. Oh but the daytime chart, TikTok music could entice a man to fill his ears with caulk. Well if he worked in a place like B&Q. Everyone knows who Coldplay but hardly anyone knows this production, Gary Willis, he probably can't afford a new Mercedes but he's a real player, an artist.
