So the Variac is now built and ready to be used at some point in time when i don't know but all i can say for now is it was fun to make easy to. the hard part was getting all the bits to make it :headpain:

I can't get my grow on yet as I'm meant to have some one coming to check my place out. I should phone them and get it bucked in really


Price list / parts

2 Amp Variac, Open Type £36.06 + VAT £7.01 = £42.07
JUNCTION BOX IP56 240 x 190 x 160 £8
6 MTR of 3 core cable £2
Nylon Cable Glands x 2 £1.10
Nylon Bolts £1.98
Crimp connectors £3

So all in the price for my 2 amp Variac is £58.15

just realised you wired your fan directly to the variac ?

if you can add a single/twin trailing socket to the variac instead of wiring the fan direct,
you'd protect the fan with the plug fuse if there was ever an electric surge,
plus, it makes it a bit easier to move them about seperately & set things up.

almost forgot, AK, any chance you can add bigger pics ?

?wot have you put to the d terminal, think you need to re check your wiring. E A C only used on your variac i think, D should be on C

For resizing pics on a mac, you can use preview, which comes wth the OS

Ricko I believe on D its 0-240valt's and on C it would be 0-270valt's

I'm gonna be building myself one of these when i can. Far better than one of the stepping types since you have full control over the power. A lot more reward for your money and effort. Nice one :yep:
