Does anyone ever have any success with autos?

82 posts in this topic

I had been growing normal plants in this particular tent and I have just seen that the lighting cycle was on 6/2 X 3 which is something I copied from an American suggestion. I have now shifted it onto 24/0 and I'll see if anything improves. I've still got some more seeds, and I'll give it another go.  I never really did draw any conclusions as to whether 6/2 was a good idea or not.  Theoretically, it is supposed to trick a plant into getting 3 days growth out of one day or something like that, but I am not really convinced.

autos grow fine, ive not had any more problems with autos than with photoperiod seeds.

the only issue with autos is that if they get stressed or stunted when seedlings they never really recover, as they are on a pre-determined life expectancy.

heres one i did when i used to be able to growlarge.chedxxl.jpg

I had one very successful auto once, and that was a great smoke just like you have experienced. That was grown under constant light from a CFL.  From what people are saying, I think that my problem might be because they are on the wrong light cycle.  I think maybe they need 24/0 lighting with no dark periods as you say.

I don't think that's it.  I've done a fair few successful auto runs now, and in my experience they finish a bit faster under 24hr light, but the quality is noticeably better with a minimum of 4 hrs dark.  However I'm using a 450w LED and 24hrs light just seemed like too much for them.  I expect it's strain dependent though.

I do think that autos might have more phenotype variation than photoperiod plants, due to the extra ruderalis genes hiding away in there, so the OP may have just gotten unlucky with the pheno dice roll.

My first time with autos, popping a seed every couple of weeks so I crop a plant every couple. First run - doubt I will go back to photo unless the cutting is a ripper or rare.

they are very tough - these are the first run for me with autos - many many screw ups but they have bounced back and carry on.

cheers

Those plants look super healthy. I have never grown autos that look like that. Any that I have grown look like bamboo canes with a few flowers stuck to them. These look just like normal light cycle plants.

Yes, to clarify, it didn't word myself very well. I wasn't questioning your integrity. I was just trying to say how good your plants were! Well done!

They were ran under 2 315 cmh and a 600 in a 1.2x2.4 so no where near a gpw.

Can't remember how old they were here around 3-4 weeks in I think.  Sour blues from mephisto, wasn't sour or blues at all lol but was still a nice smoke.

I do autos over the winter and photos rest of year round. Just smashed my PB with 4x purple diesel autos, under a 1000w hps (usually dimmed to 750w) so don’t know if it was a fluke but any time I have ran autos I get roughly the same yield.

Although I grow in hydro so mine be a good 4 inches tall 2 weeks from seed.
