I think that boosters can and do work well. 


But I believe improvements in yeild will only be relative to the plant and its environment and also how well its grown. 


Take it out of plants and look at sports drinks as an Example. 

Sports people who are in training  peak physical shape etc will benefit massively from the ingredients inside a bottle of sport drink 

where as a common bloke or an unhealthy bloke won't get as much benefit from it
