  1. My veg tent is 80x80x160. I am thinking that a 400w MH bulb would be better than the HPS bulb I am using atm. So are the cheaper generic MH bulbs worse than the brand named ones? If so can you recommend me a 400w MH bulb please? Edit. Btw can't afford to go the 315w CMH route atm
  2. Hi guys, finally got around to getting a small tent for my 2 somango xl's. They're currently under a little 10/15w ikea led, which in fairness has worked wonders for them up to this point. But the time has come for an upgrade and I need them to start putting on size in veg now if I want smoke by christmas. They've also just been transplanted to 6.5 litre pots, will likely repot before flower to something bigger (maybe 15l+? depending what fits). Hoping to pull 7 oz's at least between the two plants. Have explored options with LED, liking the minimal heat and low energy costs. Would like something at least 200 actual watts, would an led of this power achieve the 7oz goal? Also open the hps/cmh, just not sure which ones are a good safe brand, a lot of shite online. Would appreciate some real world recommendations from you guys!
  3. H, Does anyone here know if supplementing a 600 MH bulb with a T5 110W would do anything to the veg time, other than increase my leccy bill? I'm reading up on light spectrums but all I have found is T5 vs LED and MH vs HPS. Not much info on T5 vs MH. Makes me think they do the same thing, but the MH is stronger? Cheers
  4. The title is the question, I would want a digital one over a standard one if you can really get them cheap, Looking online, all the kits come with HPS bulbs which I dont want. Gumtree = nothing I dont know what is cheap and whats pricey in the 250w range, but I have a small cubic space but can do much better than the 125w CFL im using now, problem is I was thinking the 250 HID way would be way cheaper than a chinese blurple. Quantum boards well out of the price range, for some reason I was thinking I could do it under £40, as it is only £60 for a 600W digital. I have no idea, but is there a section on here where people buy and sell equipment? I wouldnt know if this site allows that or not, I know we dont talk about our percy material entering the market, and rightly so but equipment different maybe? All feedback helps MMT
  5. Just getting set for grow number 3. I've got the Lumatek 600w dig ballast, the last 2 grows I used a 600w ds lumatek lamp dialed up to 660w for the flowering, about 1500 hours in total. Is there going to be much drop off in efficiency at this amount of use at 660w? There's sunmaster DS and hps 600w lamps at good prices against the lumatek...are they okay lamps, anyone use one with a Lumatek digi ballast? What's people's thoughts about DS or HPS for flowering? For the veg I had a 400w MH sunmaster cool deluxe which would be at about 1000 hours, I've read MH lamps drop off faster than HPS lamps, how much life do you think in the MH? I've got a brand new lumatek 400w DS lamp I could use for veg, what's peoples thoughts on ds or MH for veg? I'm Just going to be growing the one plant scrog this time so looking for plenty of sunshine Cheers
  6. Sup guys Ive flowered using a 600w HPS and im debating switching over to my 400w MH for the last week or two to pack on that extra frost before the chop? What you reckon??

  10. Hello kind people I've been researching for a good month now and spent most waking hours (many when my mind should have been on other tasks, of course), reading and thinking, designing and redesigning.... Having (actually) perfected the design, I just need to figure the ballasts and bulbs. I'm getting impatient now and what I can find on these is mostly slightly dated so I'm tired of trawling and want to hand over to people who would just know - I don't run on diesel and my head hurts. I need: 300 - 500 w during veg. . 800w during flower. Spread over 2 bulbs Fluoros are, for various reasons, out - even as supplemental This necessitates dimmable ballasts. CMH look too good to pass on. But quantity is, unfortunately, a concern (first grow, probably stupid to treat it as anything more than a learning exercise - but I've invested enough mental energy to care now). Would they do for the whole grow, or should I switch to HPS (maybe dual spec.) for flower? Future grows are a consideration. If I'm going to switch, should I just get MH for veg. as they work happily with most newer ballasts? The footprint from the lights isn't really going to cross over so running 1 hps and 1 mh/cmh for flower would be of little merit except for experimentation. So basically, I'm asking for advice on the compatibility of bulbs and ballasts - are there now any digital ballasts that can handle CMH or any CMH bulbs that can handle a digital ballast? I read that lumateks don't work well with certain bulbs due to their frequency and/or striking voltage mismatches. Any knowledge on this? (I'm leaning towards lumateks bt haven't gone so far in researching due to aforementioned headache). Complete ballast and bulb combinations suggestions most welcome. No absolute limit on spend but I'd obviously like to spend as little as possible to achieve my goals. Energy efficiency is also a significant consideration of mine - partly why I'd like a ballast of a newer design and so partly hence this post. Suggestions of places to buy (in UK) also welcome. I can't help but marvel at the generosity of spirit on these pages, and when I am learned enough I fully intend on reciprocating. But for now, I'm still a comparative dunce and would like to lean on the community's knowledge - I know I could find proper conclusions to these questions with more fishing but would really just like to get on with it. Thanks and peace
  11. New to growing and I have a question! Will a 125cfl be sufficient light for my new sprouters and cuttings to flourish in their beginnings? I intend on just using a 600w dual spectrum HPS to then take over when they are strong enough through veg/flower? Or should I stretch my already tight budget and get a 250cfl and a MH bulb because my ballast wll run them too? will the advantages be drastically noticeable A 600w HPS should still allow me to veg/flower my plants so they are kick ass.....right?
  12. Hi. My question is that if somebody use CFL Dual Spec (6400K/2700K) than what king of seed would the best? I mean autos need 20/4 hours of lightning and with a dual spec bulb i dont have to change the Kelvin specialized bulb (6400veg/2700flow) and dont have to worry that the plant doesnt start to flowering. But somebody say that dual cfls works great with feminised seeds too, just switch time in right way. What type of seed would you recommend for a 250w Dual Spec CFl + E40 reflector? (+4x40w cheap E27 cfl from wallmart or etc.)
  13. Hi all. I've been searching but can't find a definite answer to this, the ballast in question is a Hortilux HS2000 600w. I've rang round a few places that sell it and the best I managed to get is "It might work with some bulbs, you'd have to check"... Check what? . Will get a dual spec HPS bulb if I have to but would rather run a MH in it, don't want to put a halide in there just to fry it though. LT
  14. Hi. I currently have a 600w HPS in a 1m *1m grow area. I have two plants. Is this too much light for 2 plants. Thanks
  15. I am currently growing 1x power africa and 1x g13 haze. I am growing both under a 400w MH/HPS combi bulb. They are both growing ok but i think they could do better if the grow area wasnt so hot. I have an in line extractor, the doors are left open to allow fresh air circulation and i have a oscilating fan in the grow area. Question is. i am in veg but have heared HPS runs cooler than MH.. I also have a 600w HPS bulb that i could use but will this be cooler than my 400w combi?? Secondly can i use HPS for Veg? If changing bulb wont help has anyone got any suggestions to reduce the heat? My humidity is also pretty consistent around 28% which i know is low for veg but will this slow growth? Alot of questions but help is much appreciated. thanks
