Too much light?

Yo first time poster here, got a quick question, in a 1.2x1.2x2m tent with 4 fairly large vegging plants that have just been switched to flower, is my current setup of a 600w HPS and 1200w (cheapish) LED each taking half the space overkill? Got them on rotation where they're swapped every feed, was told the 600w wouldn't be enough on it's own so got the LED to replace but worried about temps as it gets quite cool lights off, cheers in advance.

To be honest mate, it really does depend on the LED.

I'm tempted to say leave it as it is, if you do indeed have a cheap pink and purple LED then having this in with the HPS cant do no harm really, but again this does depend on the LED itself.

You can calculate the amount of light going down onto your canopy, and there is an area where there's too much light. But with a cheap LED and 600w HPS I'd hazard a guess your not going over that amount. And if you were I don't think you'd be close to being at a level that would have any negative effect on your crop.

I cant say for sure without getting into UMOL / PPFD etc etc, but I will say if it was me personally I'd leave the two up, get the bang from the UPS and the extra spectrum from the LED.

Ah fair point, it's a Wakyme 1200w light off amazon lol, got it a little closer to the canopy than the hps since it's kinda overshadowed by the orange of the 600w, do you think the led could replace the hps if i upped the temps a bit? with just the led it's prob around 18c but with both it's arouns 27 most of the time.

Yh I use Quantum Boards myself mate, the low temps can be somewhat of an issue in winter.

I'm not too sure I'd choose that type of LED panel to replace a 600w HPS to be honest. Quality does come from spectrum, or so I'm to understand, I've only grow the 1 full crop with only LED so I cant really speak from experience there.

But I do think you'd loose some yield and bud density dropping your HPS.

The only advice I can add there is that if you want to go full LED get in touch with DIYLEDUK who is a site sponsor. Expensive but really good products that WILL compete with HPS and then some. But loosing your HPS for a Blurple, I wouldn't myself.

This was done with 400w hps in the same size space.

Alternatively, would I be better off using the LED in a seperate area for an early veg light and get 2 400w hps in there?
