Not walking exactly, but the genetic modification of plants, so that is one of them. The second one, was introduced right at the start of the book, The hero Bill Mason could not witness it because of his bandages...

I was born in 1957, the book was written by John Wyndham in 1951. Which two future technologies did this science fiction book 'predict' ? I won't cheat and just search for it, I'll guess based on watching the movie several times as a kid. From memory the plants came from outer space, seeds in meteorites or something. As for future technologies, maybe the internet? The other one, got to be mobile phones perhaps. Will have to watch the movie again. I actually hoped someone would remake the movie because it has potential. That said, Hollywood would likely mess it up so watch the original Day of the Triffids. ps you know your stoned when you think remaking some old classic movie is a good idea. I'm NEVER that stoned myself but I'm not railing cocaine for breakfast and can only think of original things when high on cannabis, shit as they may be. Had an idea for a horror movie that was basically Worm Dicks. Laugh if you want but if an 8 foot high dick came crawling towards you then went up like a spitting cobra. Would you still laugh? Nice try, but no cigar... The Triffid seeds were stolen from Russia, where they had been genetically engineered, but in the process of stealing them, the aircraft got destroyed, and the seeds just floated around and drifted over the world, growing everywhere. So tech 1 was genetic engineering of plants. The second tech was introduced right at the start of the book, Bill Mason could not see it... As far as the various films go, they do not mention the second tech, not in the script.... It is about 3/4 of the way through the book before it is mentioned... And the only time I heard it mentioned on screen was the multi part series done many years ago on UK TV.

That BBC 80's series is the only faithful TV/film adaptation, the rest are abominations. It is very good too, the quality being in part due to generous Australian funding. 7 minutes ago, Rex Mundi said: As far as the various films go, they do not mention the second tech, not in the script.... I presume you are referring to "the lights in the sky that make us go blind"? Although I seem to recall the plague was also man made.

Some sort of satellite weapon triggered by comet debris. I don't think we get to know how it worked.

There was no comet that I recall.... and we do get to know how it worked as it is in the book and on that TV series... It was orbiting satellite weapons platforms, using lasers.... and something went wrong and they all started firing. What went wrong is explained in the book... but I don't recall it being comet debris

It's over 40 years since I read the book so my mind could be making it up! It was a plot device and probably shouldn't be given too much scrutiny.
