You do realise mikey that this doesn't just affect those who buy clones. It is being accidentally spread all over when no money is traded. 

 

Il be honest mate. Its not a good look. Its bad news for the industry. Its not as simple as "fuck them for buying clones on insta"  

 

If it has made it into my library it will be from a plant found from seed that's been infected by another plant. I've never even seen the plant that may be the reason for the demise of my library. 

 

And yea. Other than ssh and yuzu it will be the years of hard work sifting thrufh hundreds of seeds that's lost. That's what will really hurt. Losing my very very specific medicine and years of hard work and clones that can't be replaced with money to boot when I've never even grown a single clone that's been paid for.

Cos there's a real chance breeders are gonna lose parents. With no parents there's no seeds.

This has been in amongst my girls and four others I know of, without a penny or cent spent.

The spirit of most decent, honest growers is to share the special plants with those they deem able to appreciate them. 

This is a massive cunt of a situation that is affecting and going to affect everyone that grows.

Someone has built a straw man for me here. I said I felt bad for those affected. I don’t and am not taking any pleasure. I’ve had to withnail a bunch but Just to make myself clear. In my opinion as just a hobby grower I think paying for cuttings is taking a lot of the fun out of it. I can only speak as a hobby grower. That’s my limit. I suppose my initial point was to question greed on the part of the seller as warnings were given months ago and the ‘cant miss out’ mentality of folk. Commercialisation and mass production ruins everything it touches. I’m not glad about it and I’m not gloating. But flooding the place with something for a few quid obviously compounds the situation. Clones available on Instagram have made this problem much worse than it would be ordinarily. If I’m wrong I’m wrong I’ll wear it. But I didn’t come here to gloat. A mate sharing a cutting with another mate or trading cuts is one thing. I just don’t agree with the whole greedy fuckers fleecing folk and ruining peoples rooms in the process.

Its Saturday. If you really have a problem with my opinion. Then that’s your problem. Not mine.

@mikeydoughnut I don't think you understand mate.  Whether you pay for cuttings or not, it's going to affect you.  These seeds that you like hunting through, the breeders doing the work for you regularly pass cuttings between each other.  This is going to massively affect you too. 

This can stay dormant for years, so it's not so simple to avoid.  And Where's the greed in passing cuts between pals?  

It's more about keeping a genetic alive, so that someone in the future can create more beans for you to hunt through from fantastic genetics as a base.

Well I had the clone faerie booked in for a delivery next week (a mate who runs from seed exclusively so technically a closed shop) but I'm pretty much certain I don't want his plants now , eeesh this is giving me the right fear

I suppose in a clumsy way I’ve tried to say a bit of greed has helped ruin shit and helped the mess spread further than folk would have liked or would have done ordinarily. I’m not glad. Far from it. Nor was it a dig at anyone who pays for cuttings. That’s non of my business. But making cuttings available on a social media platform is going to exacerbate the problem instead of allowing organic proliferation. Maybe I’m being a utopian and was a bit of a dick with my 10/10 comment but I definitely wasn’t glad or gloating.

@mikeydoughnutjust keep popping seeds, all the best cannabis ever found was in a seed, decades of work with breeding,cuts and selection means if you pick the right breeder you get all that work in a seed. Maybe it's 10% not as good as an elite clone but there's a lot of the emperor's New clothes about all that shit. Just keep popping seeds from good breeders and be happy.

 

ETA, nearly every time I've taken cuts from someone they've come with mites so that's another reason not to bother

To help put people at ease a bit, I've had hlvd in my grow for a good three months.  I have been bleaching my snips between plants and so far everything looks clear.  It'll be a few years before I'm 100% certain nothing has been transferred, but the early signs are keeping your tools bleached is enough.

I’ve lost some brilliant  strains through only me having them. More people that hold a strain the more likely it will stick around. That’s probably why these skunk number 1 cuts are still about till this day. Everyone passed them about all over the country years ago. So glad that it’s about still as I rate the older cuts so much more than these modern cookie crosses. Preserving genetics in the weed game is so important. More so now than ever.

Brand new disposable razor blade and new gloves when moving between various mom's has meant it's only cuts brought in that had it.

 

The most recent ones were from my bro who got the cuts from the alien, he was told about the hlvd but didn't care, I even waited to see if they showed symptoms in his grow but none did, I brought rhinestone og, lemon tree and vintage blueberry in from him and the lemon tree showed symptoms straight away so was binned the rhinestone og has just started showing symptoms the last couple of weeks in flower, the blueberry vintage is spot on though but she will be kept separate for a few months and runs to be stress tested to see if she's infected also. 

 

Just goes to show it's not so straight forward when it comes to this. 

 

Good news is it doesn't spread through no till beds as I've ran seed plants in them and they grew and flowered fine.

I'd not be so sure there dude. It can stay dormant for a very long time. I think it's very unlikely indeed that it does, as dead plant tissue is likely to get destroyed along with the viroid pretty quickly. They aren't long lived out of plant cells. Equally I wouldn't be certain of that. 

 

There's a lot not yet known. Most transmission appears to be sap to sap but not exclusively so. Viroids are strange things and in some plants can remain completely asymptomatic.

 

Probably scare mongering a bit (they sell testing and cleaning services) but dark heart nursery have allegedly seen transmission from dispensary bugs to live plants through contact.

 

I would bet they were smashing ground bud into wounds but still...
