shroomskunk
hi bu as an engineer by trade i salute your work, theres alot of plannin involved in building such a work of art, simple yet wise choices. i been thinkin off buildin one for a while now but need to find the motor. any ideas mate would be spiffing, does speed matter too much? obviously it has to tumble and not stick to the sides with centrfugal force , hat off to ya mate, well done cheers sy
THC4METOO
Were you ever a presenter on Blue Peter? That was a fanastic demonstration of fine woodwork skills. Shame about the hash, though. Better luck next time.
cf
i been thinkin off buildin one for a while now but need to find the motor. how bout this ...sick of my old microwave i pulled it apart and lo there was a small 240v motor doing the plate spinning duties .....6 rpm or something
cf
i reckon if you mounted it in line with the spindle a tough rubber pipe with a small inside diameter (think fuel line on a car) would provide a vibration free coupling to the tumbler
grobag
Classic Cheese Farmer that is, A man after my own heart, "right then, how to make one of them", just as Bu has done after reading Mel Thomas. Perfic for the job mate
Bu
Excellent bit of inginuity cf! It is a pain in the arse buying a rot motor with all the stuff that comes with it like shafts and locking doodahs etc!! I reckon mine is a little slow but too fast and you'll end up with dust all over the show! 10 rpm is perfect! Cheers for the comments Shroomskunk...Engineers are becoming a rarity in this country today!..Unfortunately it's unfashionable, and engineers get no respect for what requires the same training time as a GP. Been there, done it too! Working on a 3 quid B&Q ice bucket method at the mo...Will post when she's sorted. Bu.

Bu
Yeah Kyphi, I'll be using the same mesh. I had the idea the other day of using a frying pan splash lid as support. I'll stick it on when it's reliable. Bu.

bartman
Yep sounds even better, how much you selling them for bart ? cheers folks sorry they arnt for sale potter. managed to pick up 4 bbq rotisserie motors at local b&q clearance section. fd, kali, dikki are sorted the last motor i'll use to make one up for an auction at christmas for the 420 kitty. so if anyone wants a complete unit, then that'll be a chance to get one. if anyone manages to get a motor and screen then i'll build one for ya with pleasure (taking into account the logistics of collection/delivery, that kinda restricts it to those that i know )
