A week, maximum, with no 3. She is just finishing so quick. That will be useful when growing her in the greenhouse..

No 2 won't be far behind - a week more.

I'm really looking forwards to smoking these babies!

Number 3 is down and take a look at those flowers produced  ;)

Winner, winner, chicken dinner  :yep:

How many days did she go mate? And is this the fastest finished so far?

Kind regards

winner winner strawberry dinner!!

yeah, fastest finish by far - she just upped and went. On a Monday you're thinking 'she is starting to go' and by Friday you are harvesting!

I have to admit that when the weather is wet and warm, like this, I don't hang around with the fat tight colas. I harvest ASAP or risk losing some to the old moungraa (aka stem/bud rot.)

I am not sure how long she took but we will find out when I go again with her.

no 2 is also down now. Probably a week / 10 days earlier than I would have liked but she started really really fattening up and had huge HUGE dense nugs and my budrot paranoia kicked in. After checking every big leaf in the colas, I found one that came away far too easy when I tugged it. Low and behold, it had a squishy stem. 1 more day and I would have lost half that bud. The whole plant had to come down before any losses were incurred. Damn the old Moungraa.

I have already invested in another wall-mounted fan, just to increase the movement of air in there. It is right opposite another fan so when they blow against each other little eddies of air flow in all directions. It is another small improvement to the garden.

The plant itself is, well, lovely, really. It is so smelly (as discussed) and once it starts to mature those hairy buds just fill right out. Amazing, really. I now prefer it to no 3! I'm fickle like that. Only a good smoke will finally tell me which one is the best.

Of the others still left - most are more on the sativa side than the 2 harvested (and 1 super tropical sativa diva) and they are more early in the flowering stage. I am only getting smells from the real tropical looking girl. She smells really pleasant, almost exactly like strawberry Hubba-Bubba bubblegum - but her flowers are true to form and extremely airy and light (at least they are right now.) I am not really sure what to do with her as I promised myself I would avoid tropical sativas indoors for a while as they are painful and I have done all that now...the results can be up and down and sometimes a waste of time. This one is resinous, though (even on the stems) and smells very nice. I will have to mull it over. Maybe take her as far as I can indoors and finish her off outdoors when I have a more suitable indoor replacement for her (such as a clone of no 3 or no 2!!)

There is also no 19. Smaller kush style but with slightly less vigour than the others. No smells as of yet but very early into flower. She'd have to be fucking amazing smoke for me to choose her over no 2 or no 3... unlikely to make the cut.

Still, this is what selecting is all about. It makes finding those great plants a real thrill and I have already found a couple of real crackers so far - and still have the sativa leaning girls to experience. A keeper must tick all the boxes you have chosen. All but one is no good.

I didn't get photo of no 2 before I chopped her as I didn't have my camera with me but I will try to get some 'post chop' bud porn shots to appreciate, especially after a cure.. She is impressive, to say the least. Her [indoor] flowers are as big and fat as I really ever see here in the UK even a week early and to be honest, I usually don't WANT anything bigger as you always risk losing a chunk to rot when it is wet - which is fairly often- and you're buds are THAT big, hehe!! Fat, stinky bitch. Utter joy. And this was only my first time with her - wait until I have dialled her in.... (OK, I have grown a few sativas with donkey dick style colas as long as my arm but they are not dense like this 'thing'. You could mug someone with one of these colas.)

I am not sure how but no 12 got infected inside her main stem - it all went black and slimy in there. I have never seen that before - we have all topped many a plant, right? She had a really hollow stem but I have seen that loads of times - it is not unusual and usually a very good sign that the plant will produce strong marijuana. I usually look for a hollow stem as a good sign, especially when selecting males.

Still, this one didn't like being topped at all - went all infected and the whole plant got stressed and a couple of nanners started to develop. Gutted. She had all the potential in the world. Stinky in veg. Even stinkier in flower. Same glorious smells. Early and copious resin production. Sturdy, well set branches, vigour, fat, full flowers - evident even early in the flowering process. A dream plant but all to no avail as she is now dead. We must take life's disappointments in the same way as life's gifts. Especially after the Champion's League Final! (that was a very unlucky penalty to give away, I felt. There was no way it was deliberate and it sort of span off his chest in a very unfortunate way...So soon in the game, too. Gutted. Spurs never recovered from that.) and I haven't seen anything else untoward on any of the other plants at all so no complaints there - not from me, anyway.

hello 420ers...

sorry for the delay in updating this thread.

I can confirm that Strawberry surprise x Gift of Fire smokes beautiful!

Most of the plants are very very strawberry - even the milder ones end up giving off a beautiful strawberry aroma every time you open the box. It is also very evident in the extracts produced.

No 3 was very much an exception... I have now gone through a whole other grow with new females (as well as the chosen one from the first round - no 3...) and got some great strawberry plants there too but no 3 is different to all the others. Her smoke is much less particular in the strawberry way (more general berry, really) and much much less earthy and much much much more gassy with a broad berry undertone and a hell of a lot of sweetness. You know the Calor Gas kinda smell? Sort of like cabbage..but extra extra sweet. It is really nice. The high is fantastic, too - very calm and happy. Extremely well balanced and a joy to smoke, really. Some tokes taste just like hash and some are earthy but most times it is the berry and gas that you get. It seems to takes 45 - 50 days, depending on conditions and what you are going for, really...

I took cuttings from all of the new females and got some pretty stinky plants (and not a single hermie) It is worth noting that the new grow was entirely outdoors (well, greenhouse/outdoors) and I 'by handed' all the plants every night and morning. The indoor grow is no longer - I shut it down. The results were great in there but it is very hard to grow through the summer indoors, with all the heat and also, it was absolutely evident from smoking the 2 sets of hash together (one from outdoors and one from indoors) from both no 5 and no 3 that the aromas and flavours from the outdoors were just much much better - as were the highs. It suits my organic techniques and is a much more sustainable way of growing.

{{Indoors with heaters/lights/extractors/fans/dehumidifiers/salt fertilisers made from crude oil/water pumps/water heaters - that is not a sustainable or ecological way of growing and the weed is not as good. It is really a no-brainer for me, anyway... I have worked out a 100% organic technique to harvest absolutely magnificent bud, even in a shitty UK summer, like this one. The buds aren't huge as the sun wasn't very shiny but they are more than big enough and I can grow HUGE plants to compensate. So why not?}}

No 3 is still the champion, for me, and also the other phone seems very easy to find, whereas this one is very much an unusual pheno for this cross...

She has all the attributes to make some great crosses - let's see if she passes them on to her progeny... I have selected 3 males from HSO's OG Kush and I will cross these all with a no 3 female and see if I have got my own sweet berry version of OG Kush!! I chose 3 males so I had a much wider selection of phenotypes to choose from in the seeds at the end. One has a lot of purple and red and the other 2 are green but with good structures and vigour. I like all 3.

I will also cross the female with some pure sativa males to lessen the flowering times of the sativa and introduce a euphoria to the Strawberry Surprise/Gift of Fire. The one this that my selected female doesn't have is that serious sativa kick up the arse. The electricity of euphoria that you can get from hazes, etc. Originally I was going to use a pure haze from the purple phenotypes but they are less euphoric than introspective so instead I am going to use something very special indeed. Pure Jamaican Long Time weed. Very very hard to find pure landrace seeds from the island. This sativa is called 'Long Time Weed' from what I can tell. I think it is because of how long it takes to flower as opposed to how old the strain is... It could be described very much as a Jamaican Haze - although there is no actual haze in there, the highs are apparently very euphoric and electric and uplifting and full of energy. The flowering times are described to me as being between 18 and 22 weeks !!!!!!!  I really hope that crossing it with a 7 seeker will produce a few plants in the 12 week region as I can work with those, just about... This sativa is not very much grown in the island anymore because of prohibition and the farmers really needing to get their crop harvested before it is found by the police and destroyed. The longer it is out, the higher the chances of being found, I guess... Now that prohibition in Jamaica is over I would assume that more and more farmers would be interested in planting out working versions of these kind of strains now that the quick flowering strains are no longer as necessary.... maybe this cross will interest them if it works? I am selecting a couple of males right now. The plants do seem very stable with not much difference between them at all. Very very branchy and vigorous growth, as you would expect. Many thanks to Ace Seeds for providing me with those seeds and that opportunity! Very special indeed!

So 2 crosses to come - 1 with OG Kush and 1 with a pure Jamaican Sativa - both sides sorted! Let's see how they do...

In all I have planted out and deselected more than 2 dozen of these females to get to that 1 plant. All the others from round 1 provided some great smoke and I will take some photos of that cured weed for you to see. Most were actually taken outdoors and finished outside for the last few weeks of flowering and all of the second grow were grown outdoors the whole time (except when they were rooting clones...)

Enjoy these photos of a no 3 I harvested yesterday....

yeah, sorry dude - I can get a bit wordy! Too stoned, probably -

how about:

"Nice strawberry and earthy aromas and a lovely high/stone very relaxed in the mind with happy, positive vibes. Good for daytime (if not overdone). Yields are good but it is not a commercial strain. The occasional stinker pops out with kush-like aromas more like lemon and pine with a strong and solid stinky funk and denser nugs. Most go 8-9 weeks but the kushier plants have a very fast finish so nearer the 8 weeks than 9 weeks. Tastes are strawberry and earthy but kush-type phenotypes are more gassy. Strawberry phenotypes much preferred sunshine and kush phenotype did very well both ways (indoor and out.) Keeper is dense and solid with a good yield for the cross. She is general sweet berry as opposed to particular strawberry. She has a stench about her that is a bit less lemon and pine than the other kush types but the flavour is very very gassy and a super fast finish at around 48 days...fantastic 'smoke me' flavour that makes you want to keep coming back and a kind kind high that means you can keep coming back! I feel she is a crosser more than a specimen due to the super fast finish but cuts are now out there so I will see what the local 4-20 community says."

Cool about sending over the report - give him a heads up from me - it's a nice cross. Glad to be of service!

So your getting the impression this would be a better strain to use as a cross compared to being released as is?

I'm sure the boys and girls in Humboldt County will find this info very useful for future breeding project's  :yep:

Thanks again buddy :bong:

no - not at all!!! I definitely think you should release it. It is a lovely cross full of (FULL OF) positive vibes. Much less aggressive than so many kush hybrids. It is easy to grow, full of resin and the smoke is beautiful, strong and very Kind. Great taste, too...

It is just this one plant that my brother, my friend and I chose is everything good about this cross in just under 7 weeks - how can you not love that? With a better yield than the others, too and a slightly more unique taste she will make a good mum. Everyone loves the smoke and yield but as a grower and pollen chucker, I love the quick finish.

I will try to take some photos to show you what I mean. My brother's weird hippy friends are well into trying it outdoors next summer. I have a few cuttings on a natural cycle and the one that went out before the 21st of June is already properly flowering now. At just 48 days she will finish really early.

That's a lot of good traits..
