Refilling carbon filters

distracted

Recommended Posts

Well I got my second delivery of 5kg activated carbon pellets and just set it up. Works like a charm!! :yahoo: It's so easy to set up as well.

Ironically though when I opened the door to the delivery guy delivering the activated carbon a big waft of smell must have come out. I'm sure he smelled it, so I'm shitting myself now. I don't know whether to risk it or to downsize and pack it in temporarily

Thanks! I saw the thread that sent you here btw, don't go looking in a small pet shop for the carbon you need, it's pellets you want not the fine aquarium stuff... google and mail order will sort it out and it's not a suspect purchase to worry about if you have a big pond retailer you may be lucky but I'd just order the air stuff online

Heres a few pics of my 6" x 600mm Rhino CF, I havent got round to ordering the replacement carbon yet :wassnnme:

& thanks for the calculations, Distracted :smoke: most helpful but I was thinking about the size & volume of the inner netting, I might need

slightly less than 8.5Kg carbon & once i get round to ordering 10Kg, I might have enough carbon left for a small 5" CF as well hopefully.

Can't speak for the others Bluez.... but the only thing you are doing is replacing spent activated carbon with fresh activated carbon, it's pretty simple really provided you pack in the carbon well and make sure you have no airgaps... tha actual metalwork in the filter is still good to go so nothing changes except the freshness and effectiveness of carbon bed that is cleaning the air

I've had this situation a few times because I've been too stupid - opening the door before thinking. I took down my grows as a precaution on each occasion but nothing ever happened. Now I have a lock on the door that requires me to stop and check - giving me time to think. I'm super-para, but I've never had a concrete bed either....
