So I do t wanna get behind agin so I'm gonna load these up as I go. Resizing and editing them takes too much time lol.

large.RGS2021_18_1.jpg

First off the purple Freeze.

These all all looking fab! One had lovely purple pistals, the other two are different again. Ones more black and white, other grey.large.RGS2021_13_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_14_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_15_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_16_1.jpg

They are all about 5 half foot these now. Think it is my favourite looking plant on the plot too!

Next up are the autos. These are definitely the furthest along. If you've got any ideas how much longer these might be that be great. I'm guessing 2 weeks???

large.RGS2021_35_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_36_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_37_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_38_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_39_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_40_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_41_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_42_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_43_1.jpg

Then the one at the back is just starting to flowerlarge.RGS2021_45_1.jpg

A hell lot bigger than her sisters.

Unfortunately I found 1 small price of bud for on the other two. Carefully cur out. Hope it doesn't spread. May even cut them in a week just make sure I get them home. Think it's been around 6 weeks since seen them going into flower.

Thanks for reading

Hey man, nice to see what you can achieve even with a late start.. looks like more than two weeks to me, but if the rot's getting them then it's best to get something

Cheers pal. It was late plant out, but looks like I'm hopeful gonna get something home, long as weather stays ok into October.

And thanks, still learning how to judge the right time to harvest, only second go at this, you thinking more than 2 weeks? See how it goes, but think your right, better get something than nothing. Been carefully cut out, but after last year I know how it spreads. Really need to order a decent loupe or something.

Brilliant diary mate, really good effort for a first GG, should definitely have a good harvest out of that with a bit of luck. Clay is a good place to start if you don't kind investing some time needs a lot of organic matter to loosen it up but very rich in nutrients and great water retention.

I've just found a new plot for next year thats heavy clay, I'll be starting work on it in the autumn, a good initial dig, with nice big holes (50cm³ or more if you feel like it), mixing in plenty of manure and compost, then a few big mulches/top dresses over winter, let nature and the frosts do the work for me. Come spring I should have some lovely soil to plant into. For following seasons you can just keep mulching and top dressing, digging will become a thing of the past, and in spring you can put some heavy black plastic over your plot (over a healthy top dress), bury all the edges and it will keep all the weeds down until you're ready to plant out, kills all their seeds as well.

I was slack/last minute this season and its reminded me of the importance of having everything ready to go ahead of time.

Thanks @MindSoup

Appreciate the kind words.

I had a garden grow last year so not first grow, but defo first GG!

Hell of a lot different. No tinkering with them daily. But a LOT less paranoia!

Hopefully if I get to the finish line I'll be able to use this plot again and properly prepare it! Was same as you all a bit late, but not to be deterred, cracking on with it!

Plus I've got a lot to learn still, defo things i could have done better!

Next up is the OPG x Freezland

large.RGS2021_24_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_25_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_26_1.jpg

Think these and the dfg are furthest behind. Hopefully they will come to something!

Next is the Mighty Freeze, by no means the tallest here, but, they looking amazing

large.RGS2021_27_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_28_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_29_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_30_1.jpg

Last are the DFGlarge.RGS2021_31_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_32_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_33_1.jpglarge.RGS2021_34_1.jpg

Think these will be very late. Not sure why, maybe because of the late plant out, but also these attracted the most bugs and slugs, and were munched a few good times!

But they all germed and have survived this far! Something good in these beans!

I should also add that all the plants around them where cut to about 2inch tall, this a good idea or better to just try and remove completely? Also they all got about a liter of water each, and used up the last of the ffb, tiny amount, so could get rid of the box lol.

Also I've started them all on just bonemeal and potash now. I wasn't sure of the quality needed. I was giving them approx a hand full off ffb before. So half a handful of bonemeal, and maybe a third of potash. I didn't want to be over feed them and mess things up at this stage. Any info would be great!

  • 2 weeks later...

So after asking some questions and that, I was back up the plot the other day. But my calculations I'm at day 100 here.

large.PXL_20210915_184417977_1_copy_1143x858.jpg

I might be off, it's getting late.

Main reason was to check on the autos, as I'd found mold on one of them on my last visit. But more on that later. Quiet a difference since my last visit! Wish I'd have gotten these all in sooner. But never mind. Something to plan for next year!

Pics not the best as it was starting to get dark. In fact I think it had just gone sunset, but not quiet dusk.

Just the one of each today

large.PXL_20210915_183424044_1_copy_969x1292.jpgshe's defo gotten bigger. Unfortunately I found I price of mold, so that's been cut, luckily was not at the top. Will have look back see how along she is.

large.PXL_20210915_183441426_1_copy_959x1279.jpg

All ³ where looking good againlarge.PXL_20210915_183459894_1_copy_924x1231.jpglarge.PXL_20210915_183506027_1_copy_954x1272.jpg

of all the girls growing, she is the only one that looks like she has been sister with icing  looks amazing so far!large.PXL_20210915_183521304_1_copy_998x1332.jpglarge.PXL_20210915_183525992_1_copy_840x1120.jpg

Not sure what happened here but the largest plant on site now!

So the other 2 autos. The reason I was going, as I was worried what was going on.

large.PXL_20210915_180418864_1_1_copy_1231x1123.jpglarge.PXL_20210915_180324129_1_copy_863x1151.jpg

Yeap, mold had struck them both.

I'm not sure if they were ready, only had a magnifying glass with me and I knew was getting dark so made a decision to cut them both down for the sake of the rest there, and also as I wasn't sure when I'd be able make it next, I'd rather get some in now rather than not at all in a week!

large.PXL_20210915_183535353_copy_816x1088.jpg

All that was left in the ground.

Anyway ive gotten my first harvest in which is good, even if might have been early. Pics hard to tell.

Bad part was I almost got lost on the way out. Going thru the woods in almost pitch black and no light is no fun. Luckily I've remembered a few things along the way so I managed get back to the path and get home.

Used the Tupperwear and deodorant spray tactic, and remembered take gloves incase I chopped so didn't smell to bad but bumped into no one on the way out.

So I've got back, wet trimmed them as I still don't have a drying set up sorted,  and split them into about 10 paper bags and hung them up for now. Hope this will do

Anyway hope your all doing well and fingered crossed for everyone getting closer to the finish line!

 Hello fellow GGers.

Been a mad week here.

And one full of close shaves!

Anyway. Let's start with the good.

The two autos I chopped the other week have been drying, not perfect conditions, just in brown paper bags, pegged to a lone, but after 9 or ten days, they have been jarred. Good to have something over the finish line!!!

Also the plot Seema fine. Few bits of mold on a few plants but nothing to much as of yet. Hopefully I will make it to the finish. Nights are drawing in fast now and after seeing people a lot closer or starting to harvest I am slightly worried.

large.2_RGS2021.jpglarge.1_RGS2021.jpg

I think that's the correct days in. Will have check back at some point. Could be more. Anyway I didn't have time get any more picks as, well, Ive never actually heard anyone at the plot before. Well near enough to know they are not that far. Never ducked down so fast before! A HELL of a lot more happended after that, and I did seriously think about abandoning it after getting home eventually. Maybe I was being para. Maybe still am but I'm gonna keep that, loose lips and all, till the end of the season. Seriously tho, I was like fuck my life!

Good morning! Getting closer now for everyone.

large.RGS2021notlong_1.jpglarge.RGS2021notlong_2.jpg

With a week of rain rain and rain coming, I was thinking should I take some down incase of rot. Decided I'd see what was like when I turned up.

As can see from pic a few came down!

Unfortunately my lovely purple frezze had mold, quite a lot. So down she came. Pistles gone brown, but hoped for another 7-10 days, was quiet fat but I'd say lost over 50% to mold. Things change fast.

2 of the mighty frezze came down too, again prop another 7-10 days would been better, but one or 2 specks of mold, wasn't taking chances, but being less than half the size of the purple, I came away with about the same amount each after cutting down.

Nice mate,. always a good feeling when something makes it home, definitely the right decision to chop, a bud in the hand... as they say.

I agree, great feeling! And I think it was right decision too. If anything else had been close I prob would cut them down too. Shame the purple was so mildly tho. It was my favourite on the plot.

But still learning, and still a lot to do down there!
