Twenty Three
The bible was started 300 yrs after christ died and finished around 900ad. that gives folk a long old time to tell tales any old way. most christian days of celerbratoin are ripped off. The Old Testament was canonized 300 years BC but the writings themselves date from around 1100 BC for the oldest text (probably Job) to 400 BC for the most recent (Malachi). As for the New Testament, the texts were written between 45 and 95 AD with the Testament finally canonized around 375 AD. "Go on" He was standing there wearing a walkman, shades and flip flops Only, you remind me of someone "Oh! Really, and who may that be" and I was torn about bringing my friend into this age old story John Wilkingson "Ah, lot of people say that" ["Might have been written then but edited a few times, isnt it." eski
Yeah, but god being god, and all that, he'd know you were hedging your bets and strike down upon thee with great vengeance and fuuuuuurious anger. It's not all harps and arks, he enjoyed a fucking good smoting, did god! Thats a very biblical view of how God would react. I like what Einstein wrote about God late in his life: ' I cannot accept any concept of God based on the fear of life or the fear of death or blind faith. I cannot prove to you that there is no personal God, but if I were to speak of him I would be a liar. As to what one could believe in, the answer was simple enough. “I believe in the brotherhood of man and the uniqueness of the individual. But if you ask me to prove what I believe, I can't. You know them to be true but you could spend a whole lifetime without being able to prove them. The mind can proceed only so far upon what it knows and can prove. There comes a point where the mind takes a higher plane of knowledge, but can never prove how it got there. All great discoveries have involved such a leap.” As mentioned in the earliest posters regarding Nature is what I probably relate to most. The mysteries of nature is where I find a deep admiration of God. About not having a bet at all. Probably going through life with just such a gameplan. I remember seeing the Richard Dawkins programs on channel four where he had a go at a lot of the big religions. I quite like most of his ideas and arguments. I would like to read some of his books. The Selfless Gene sounds quite interesting. He's a hardcore atheist. Something about humans being able to act against their genetics seems interesting and I guess its all ties into evolution theories etc. I used to think being an atheist would be depressing but what Dawkins said in end of that program about the chances of each of us coming into existence are infinitesimally small, and even though we shall all die some day, we should count ourselves fantastically lucky to get our decades in the sun. He reckons humans won't be around in 50 million years. Mixed emotions I think regardless of what you believe and to me that kind of ties in a little bit with Einsteins beliefs in humanity as a whole and the uniqueness of the individual. Burns
I need proof tbh, this blind faith malarkey dosent do it for me im with StundiE as well - shove it down my throat and i will give you the middle finger, If there is a god i will find him/her/it in my own time, in my own way. proof doesnt exist, or there would not be so many different faiths. And if proof doesn`t exist you have to question if there is anything there to prove in the first place B)
Guest ironlungs
yeh but all of you are forgetting one thing if there's a god/creator, then you're forgetting that there is also the devil/anti-creator just when you thought shit cudnt get any deeper
Guest ironlungs
ok i admit im not the buddha expert. but the message is so similar to christianity/islam/judaism. but how do you know he wasnt a prophet sent down to spread the message of peace, and then people made him into a deity and now his statues are commercialised and sold worldwide. not saying its fact, just sayin. muslims believe there were 124,000 prophets sent to this earth to save mankind from the self-destruction we are witnessing today. moses, jesus, mohammed, elijah, joseph, jacob etc.... the one thing that causes all the arguments is the languages and the people the messages came to. one thing that i buzz off today, is that all the things that islam condemns are worldwide dilemmas: intoxicants such as alcohol are forbidden, and alcohol is probably the biggest business going, even going as far as targetting the kids with colourful flavours and labels. adultery is forbidden, and oh guess what, its widespread. the wearing of silks and gold were forbidden, and oh look people are wasting money on extravagant clothes and jewellery. dont tell me u never heard of bling bling.... hoarding of money is forbidden, and oh look people are just arsed about number one... the showing of the male/female form is forbidden(body shape/private parts, etc), and oh look people are almost wearing no clothes. reminds me of the story of the 'emperor's new clothes'. also if u look at the ten commandments, they have all been broken by this so called modern society. these are so obvious signs that someone or a certain group of people who control the way the world advances are taking us down a path that is the absolute opposite of most religions, without the majority of people even recognising it: no.1 has been violated the world over no.2 the same no.3 even i am guilty of and people who dont even believe in jesus or god will use their names in vain, i.e jesusss! jesust christ! christ! christ almighty! oh god! no.4 has nearly dissappeared no.5 is way out the window no.6 hmmm lemme think no.7 doh no.8 yup theft is a bit common nowadays no.9 anybody know any liar liars? no.10 desire envy jealousy all common traits of todays people surely the fact that all the things that are meant to benefit mankind are being totally and utterly violated and the law systems of the world seem to allow it, is a sign in itself, that dark forces are at work.
