Apollo Black Cherry + Mack & Crack + Panty Punch

3 regs of each, starting now :)

All of the seeds germinated and super quickly as well, within a few days, so fast that I let them get a bit wild! It was a struggle to fit the roots into the jiffy pellets and I was tempted to trim them (if thats even possible?) but ended up tucking the roots carefully into the jiffy pellets and let them do their thing.

Hi @FlooK, I'm sorry to say that doesn't look good mate. They will strugle to throw off their outer shell. Try and keep the shell moist to help it be thrown off. I've heard that saliva is good. It is possible to remove the outer shell by hand but it is tricky.

They will also be very leggy and require support for a while.

If you have the seeds I'd be starting agai ad keeping a very close eye on them. Try and get them whe the radicle is first appearing.

Viable seeds can germinate within 18hrs or even less.

All the best with them

They germinated quickly :)

Keep any seed heads moist until they lose their helmet lol

For future info,

you can put the seeds directly into the pellets and allow them to germinate inside them.

Or if you germinate them on paper towels/kitchen roll,

then I'd go straight into a small(½") pot with some seedling/cutting compost.

You always want the seed to have to push itself through the compost,

as this process helps to remove the seed husk.

They'll pull through though I reckon :v:

Haha cheers for the info fellas, ive carefully removed each of the helmets and they came off pretty easily. It may not be the best start to life but hopefully these early days wont affect the end result too much.

I planned to leave them on the window sill till they roots start to appear out of the bottom then re pot them into something bigger and chuck them into the tent.

Good point @Ccs141 :yep:

Make sure the membrane,

which usually comes off with the seed husk isn't still holding the seed leaves together :D

Thanks mate. Will do.

By the way, would you guys recommend sticking them in the tent at the moment under a cfl light or you think it would be just as good leaving them on the window sill for a week or so?

  • 2 weeks later...

Update time :)

8 out of the 9 plants survived germination (RIP 1x Apollo Black Cherry)

I've transferred them into a coco/perlite mix and a pot size slightly bigger, I plan to leave them in these seedling bags for a week or two or until i start seeing the roots poke out of the bags, then transfer to the final 3gal fabric pots. I've also installed the new LED board and moved the carbon filter + extraction fan to the outside of the tent to provide a little more head room. The tent has had a nice clean and tidy so everything is organised and ready to go.

Any feedback/suggestions greatly appreciated

Cheers fellas

Looking good so far.

I haven't tried those seedling bags,

what are they made of?

I think it's really thin cloth. Not too sure though. @Shumroom

Do you grow in coco? Just wondering what your thoughts are on prebuffing with cal mag? I didn't bother this time, hoping it's not an issue if I add a bit to their nutes each time

Yes I grow in coco and compost,

separately.

I don't,

but you're supposed to check the coco buffer level,

by putting the strength of feed(which may or might not depending on your water supply, require CalMag to get into the right zone) that the plants will require through it until the runoff comes out roughly the same :)

After a few feeds the coco will get to the desired level.

Just keep an eye on them for any obvious signs of over/under feeding.

Yeah I think this is my issue, the plants haven't taken well to the change in medium/pot, its been 2 or so days and I expected them to bounce back. Will check the run off later when the lights come on

I've grown healthier looking plants lol

After checking the ec and ph everything seems fine, 800ec and 6.0 ph.

Only thing I can think is over watering, I won't feed again and monitor them over the next day or two
