First, IME, with that type of rig, unless you remove the bowl after every draw the back rush of air causes the herb to jump out of the bowl and get everywhere. Secondly, bits of herb will get sucked through the shovelhead and into your rig. This can start to clog your perc quicker and dirty the water. I think the we is designed to be used without a cap. Start at 650 and see how you get on. Draw speed has an impact. Slow draw and hotter hits and vice versa. lower temps for flavour.
