@KaptainKush

Thanks for replying. Didn't realise this post is years old and actually thought I hadn't managed to post until I logged in this morning. Frickin brain of mine!:headpain:Haven't had any herb for a while and everything has gone to pot!

 I take Vit D on prescription first thing upon getting up, so figured the supplements will be easier to take at same time. Was taking a probiotic yogurt drink, which was helping a bit, but they are full of sweeteners, added sugar and lactose. All of which I'm trying to cut out of my diet. Figured out that the supplements at H & B work out cheaper than the yogurt drinks. Also heard that Apple cider vinegar is supposed to be helpful. Might have a gag reaction to that though, can't imagine it tasting very pleasant!

Yes anything store bought is pretty much useless probiotics wise. Home made is the way to go. Sourkraut, kombucha, kefir take your pick! I personally love Sourkraut. Its just funky cabbage and very good for the goodies in your gut.

As for apple cider vinegar make sure you mix with water and its quite enjoyable. Although i am a bit weird :)

Hope to have been of some help

@Arnold Layne

So sorry to hear about PD. It sucks. Still in limbo land after 14 years of symptoms that all point to early onset Parkinson's. I'm on my own with this as have had naff all help from the so called medical professionals; over the years have been prescribed drugs that I can't tolerate, made things worse, or put my life at risk. I'm booked in for therapy counselling again as been struggling to look after myself as progression has ramped up. Nausea, lack of appetite, sun downing (which was ridiculous; almost a month with hardly any sleep), tremors, freezing, stiffness, suspected seizures, dizziness, balance problems, pain and fatigue, spasticity to mention just a few of the symptoms.

I've noticed a lot of difference between strains, but then I've been relying on deals where I often haven't a clue as to what strain they are. Wish I knew what I had last as was in a pretty bad way until my first dose.... Almost every ailment melted away within moments and all was right with the world :)

I find I'm best sticking to low doses with a few days off every now and then. Trying to maintain steady dopamine levels without bulding up a tolerance. Looking into diet and trying to get some regular exercise. Getting myself some decent organic, lactose free probiotics when I get paid as have a 'leaky gut'

Just got myself a grow started and will be keeping a diary.

In one way I'm kind of glad of the fact that I don't have a diagnosis as I know a lot of the meds offered for PD don't sound nice at all and offer little relief.

Hope you find something to suit!

I'm surprised you have had no diagnosis yet. Have you not been assessed by either a Neurologist or Parkinsons Nurse and had that assessment confirmed by way of a DatScan (Dopamine Transporter Scan)? You seem to be showing many of the symptoms of PD, a DatScan would confirm whether or not you have PD per se, or whether the specialists need to look for some other root cause.

Drug Therapy has not been anything like the toxic nightmare I anticipated. I am on 1mg Rasagiline per day, as well as 3 x Stalevo (= 100mg Levodopa, 25mg Carbidopa, 200mg Entacapone) per day. The only possible side effect so far is some Dyskinesia to my left leg and foot, but that could just as easy be a symptom of the PD itself. On the plus side I have noticed a marked and welcome reduction to the Tremor that used to run riot with my hands. I couldn't stir a mug of tea without it being splashed all over the kitchen! Now I can stir a brew quite well enough. But there has been no nausea, no delusional behaviour, no hallucinations and no galloping trots! I can't say that the drugs work 100%, but my symptoms seem kind of dulled or suppressed. Its an odd feeling, and I get the typical On/Off thing, where my symptoms start to come on stronger as each dose wears off.

I can't say that Cannabis has done much of any great significance. Saving only that it makes my balance problems a lot worse! I recently travelled to Brussels for a week's holiday with an old friend who lives there. I took no weed with me, as I prefer not to have the hassle of passing by sniffer dogs etc whilst on the road, and tbh I prefer being straight when enjoying new sights and places. By the end of the week my friend observed that I seemed fitter, and was able (with assistance) to walk further, faster. My opinion is that this is due to my coming off the weed and regaining some improved balance which means I can go "further, faster". I can repeat this at home (and often have done), and there is no doubt in my mind that cannabis, whilst doing many positive and useful things for me (in particular mood elevation which counters depression, and mental distraction which stops me focusing on continual spine related chronic pain), is very far from being a sort of wonder drug.

Looking round the internet, I find folks who say its brilliant, and others who say its not very helpful, maybe even counter productive. I'm somewhere in the middle. Which means, its time to roll a big fat spliff and blow my head off.

I find it helps for me a bit, especially for after I've had a seizure as well when my mind's a bit messed up. I've got epilepsy that's why I have them. I'm on lamotrigine 100mg twice a day and clonazepam .25mg twice a day. I have a extra box of clonazepam aside for the times I could do with a bit more to take right away to stop partial seizures on a day I get a few or after a grand mal, or if I've put stress on my body somehow that could trigger a seizure. I was a bit wary back in November starting a benzo to treat my epilepsy but it does a really good job.

Just wondering if you find any noticeable drowsiness or sedation from the clonazepam?  I realise that side effects vary from person to person.

I find benzo's generally to be unpleasant but effective.

At first I found myself getting a bit more tired than usual after college and a little less motivated but that's long gone now. Maybe I would be more awake if I wasn't taking it, some things you don't really notice much. I think I'm going to stay on It, the combo of lamotrigine and clonazepam ime is better than some of the anticonvulsants alone, in terms of side effects and treating seizures. My dose would need increasing on the clonazepam to be feeling tired/sedated from it, I'm on a pretty low dose, 0.25mg twice a day is low for clonazeoam

I take 1mg Clonazapam at night, it don't half send me to sleep, on top of all the other stuff I take. Took 2 once, by mistake. So sound asleep, accident happened!

I`m not surprised,  that`s roughly equivalent to 20mgs of valium.

Go steady with it Arnie mate, you could soon get inter dose withdrawal after a month or more.

I`m down to 6mgs a day now and at the moment it sucks, but not everyday, so hopefully I`ll be free.

@ratdog

I'm actually prescribed 2mg per day, 1mg at lunchtime, 1mg at bedtime. But I can't handle that, it knocks me clean out 20/24!

I would knock it on the head but for the fact it actually works. To a certain degree. Its prescribed to deal with restless leg syndrome, especially at night. My legs were twitching so much that I developed an ulcer on my ankle bone. Which became infected and blah blah blahdi-bla........

If I take my full dose of opioids, I need to take the Clonazapam when already sorted and in bed. Talk of fast acting ....... if I were to count sheep it would be a single figure! Thankfully a rare occurrence, that.

I know it helps mate, but perhaps think about taking a break now and again just to monitor the tolerance, not teaching you to suck eggs mate, you`ve done more drugs than I`ve had hot meals lol but I just know how it can go, even with dosing once a day, I only used once a day, and still struggle to believe how this drug can mess with the mind so fucking much.

any way, I`ll wont nag lol:)

@ratdog what dose did you start with when you was doing it daily? I think my daily dose is OK and shouldn't be too much of a shit time tapering off if I ever do. But I could be wrong, and it boils down to the individual a lot as well, like everything really.

Not trying to worry you IT, but I was just reading the wiki page on clonazapam & it says that it is not suitable for long term treatment of epilepsy due to onset of tolerance, just for acute management.

Quote

Clonazepam, like other benzodiazepines, while being a first-line treatment for acute seizures, is not suitable for the long-term treatment of seizures due to the development of tolerance to the anticonvulsant effects.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonazepam

You might want to discuss that with your neurologist and ask what his long term plans are for treatment when you see him.

Thanks, I have found some of you posts about your treatment very helpful.

Nag away, old son, nag away! lol

Not sure about tolerance, I've been on the Clonazapam for well over a year or even two now. Still seems to work. Hmmmm, I'll try a night or two without, see what happens.
