Just wanted to drop this in here, Gabor Mate came up earlier in this thread, I think it was @cf who first mentioned, thanks very much btw mate :yep:

I've watched a couple of his lectures now but this one really hit home,

Hopefully other folk here can find it as helpful as I have :yinyang:

@Dodgee

Thanks for the heads up mate, I've enjoyed this (on x1.25 - man, talk quicker! lol )

I have agreement with him on most of what he's said, but I differ in the totality of things that ail us being able to be magicked away through a change in attitude -  which at times he, to me, seems to state/imply. Now, that's just a 'hot take', but I'll definitely give the fella more time to see if that first impression is off. My viewing of this has been interrupted a few times so I may be....then again... I have thoughts that also contradict that. Hmmm. I'll mull it over.

I assert that some things are worth the scar tissue. ;)

Onwards.

different version to the 1 I first heard years ago........

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk
Cried, "Ho! what have we here,
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up he spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee:
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he;
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope.
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen.

This timeless parable helps remind us to let go of things that are not ours to carry.  What are you carrying?

Two traveling monks reached a river where they met a young and very attractive woman. She was in despair. She had to cross the river, but was afraid to do so. The current was too strong and she was afraid of drowning. Without hesitation, the older monk picked her up onto his shoulders and carried her across the river. Arriving safely on the other bank he sat her down and bowed. She expressed her gratitude and departed. The monks continued their journey in silence.

Unable to hold his silence any longer, the younger monk spoke with reproach “Master, of all people you should have known that our spiritual teaching forbids us contact with women, but you have picked up that one and carried her on your shoulders! How can that be!?”
“Brother,” replied the master, “I set her down on the other side of the river hours ago, but you are still carrying her.”
