for a novice grower i would recommend feminsed photoperiods simply because if you make a mistake whilst in veg you can get a photoperiod  to recover with a week or 2 extra veg were an auto will just flower when it wants to

I agree, to a point.

If you are growing photos and its somewhere where you will have to heat the room for the 12 hours the lights are off, id go autos, because it will cost loads to heat a room for 12 hours, or if its inside, say a spare room or something, go photos.

Lets see your system then? get some pics up and add to the rdwc love

Cheers for that... Mrs won't let me put tent and setup in spare bedroom lol, so it's going in the shed unfortunately.. as I'm on a limited budget. I've used that foil bubble wrap roll to insulate the whole of the shed the best I could.. so yes mate, autos seem like the way to go considering the heater I bought for the job is 1500w! I'll be using a 2 bulb 630w CMH light, which I'm yet to source and buy and will also need a chiller which won't come cheap.. I've had to buy a 120 X 120 x180 attic growtent with a pitched roof to accommodate the shape of my shed...

I haven't got a clue how to upload photos on here but I've got a short video on YouTube called " 1st RDWC set-up" it's under my own name if that's any help to ya... Let me know what you think ok.. cheers dude..

Funnily enough I was discussing this with a friend yesterday.

Came to the same conclusion as badbillybob, best having autos in a garage due to the leccy cost.

Probably wont agree with me on this one, but id say youd get away without a chiller in a shed. I havnt got a chiller, and im growing indoors with the control bucket outside the tent. The temps can sometimes creep up to around 22 but I generally control this by adding ice which is a pain but doable. With a garage or shed you wouldn't have so much of a problem, so long as your control bucket is outside of the growtent it should be cool enough in the garage/shed to sustain it at a suitable temperature. Summer might be an issue though.

Edit: My other thoughts on a shed growth as im considering growing in a garage - how secure is it? Try and keep it as clean and pest free as possible as it would be much easier for common pests to make their way to your plant. Im currently dealing with thrips, and the only way i can think of of them getting is i brushed my clothes on some plants on the way home from work one day or one of the animals made it into the growroom and infested them that way :(

Thanx for the advice zepharock.. appreciated mate.. I was thinking the same thing about leaving my reservoir outside of my tent, I'll just have to cut a couple of holes to accommodate the pipes.. Also, on the chiller thing, with our weather usually cold this time of year I think I'll get away with it for one, maybe two harvest then will have to buy a chiller for the summer.. DO you know what kind of yeild I can get from 4 20 litre buckets using autos? Cheers bud..

Yup no harm in cutting a couple of holes, make a nice neat cross shape and tape around the outside to prevent smell/light leaks. So long as theres negative pressure in the tent youll be fine (excuse my carpet stains i got lazy during a res change and spilt some :wallbash:)

The chiller is expensive so definitely save that until you get a couple of grows under your belt unless you can afford it. You cant go cheap on a chiller, buy cheap buy twice.

Harvest wise depends on the space you have available, training technique, strain, nutes etc, many many variables. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess. Im hoping for 10 ounces from a 1.5 x 1.5 grow space but even with 3 plants area available is a limiting factor.

Your profile pic is very obscure, but id change it just to be on the safe side. Im paranoid about uploading anything that might show so much as a window or wall art in my pictures lol

Looks more like excitement and a total lack of self control to me...:wassnnme:

:rofl::rofl:

I grow in the shed and extremes of temp is a challenge, summer can get into the 40c's and winter well into minus figures.

I've found the trick is to insulate everything, (including reservoir) turn the extract right down and have a heater on a thermostat.

Intake from the shady side of the shed in summer, from inside next to the heater in winter...extraction is always to the outside.

This method has worked well for me for the last few years...

It can get pretty exciting waiting for those buckets to drain!

@stu914 cheers bud.. would you mind telling me what you've used to insulate your shed please? I've use that double foil bubble wrap and my shed is covered from floor to roof.. tbh when I visit the shed on a cold day I can't really tell if it's insulated well cause it's still cold in there.. I've got a heater with a thermostat on it and it does keep it nice and toasty in there..thanks for the advice on what to do during winter and summer mate... Like you say, it works for you, so I don't see why it won't for me!! U must have a large shed to get a 1.5 x 1.5 in there.. anyway, cheers bud..

@Zepharock thanks for that mate..I checked my growtent for light spots last night and all across one stitched seam I can see all the pinpricks of light all the way along the side of the tent.. do you know if there is a specialist tape to cover  the said holes? Also thanks for the advice on slitting the holes for my res tubes... Is there a favourite strain for hydro growers that you know of? And with the profile pic, I'll change it now lol.. cheers bud.
