Guest
Hello again, I did mention Chaos in the title (should have put practical instead of theory ) and with good reason. Let's start with thrips, I hate them , tried nematodes, neempalm and still they persist . Captn Jack is enroute to (hopefully ) eradicate the pest. However, the chaos merely peaks it's head up at this point. I've noticed several threads regarding unusual yellowing on new growth and apparent deficiencies where none should exist and it turned out that some had water issues . I thought nothing of it until Ice Cool decided to join the yellow March , then I decided to read these threads again. Seems an imbalance in the cal:mag was quite severe , this caused lock out and displayed as deficiency as a result. I've sent a sample of my water today for testing (GA site sponsor offers this service ) and will confirm my suspicions next week. Suffice to say , I've delayed potting up until I'm sure if the issue, apologies for all you porn lovers, I will get their roots out as soon as its sorted. I'm posting a couple of pics by way of update , I have taken to supplementing their most recent feed with Epsom salts and it seems to be correcting the problem. You can see the yellowing above in the centre .... Cream Caramel is doing just fine though I played them some sweet blues while tending them , fingers crossed they're still alive and green next visit. Until then, thanks for looking in . Keep on keeping on Breezus Edited February 17, 2017 by Breezus Fat fingers

Fragg
@Breezus sounds like you are on top of the issue mate and Epsom was a good shout, it will be interesting to get your water done and see whats up. I've tried nematodes and have to say not had a lot of luck with them either..... but for sciarids myself. Sure some blues will chill them just fine Just had my daughter berate me for her listening to Clapton's Cocaine all week working in London, I'm sure she must have heard JJ's version more growing up ATB man

Hope all is green in your gardens Peace Breezus
Sweet Seeds-tommy
Cheers mate! They seem nice to me. Maybe they would respond well to a transplant, with more space for roots. But it's ok if you wait a few days until you get that information. Keep it up and sweet smokes tommy
Guest
Right then, it's time to get on with the promised pot dropping porn , they're only young so it won't be a long photo shoot for rooty goodness but we'll worth the wait .... but ..... before the main event , it's come to my attention (OK, I got mashed and forgot ) that my set up pics are not here so let's start there ... As mentioned previously I am running a 400w mh off the digital pro dimmable ballast ... 5" extraction fan and 35"tower oscillating fan Homemade silver taped plank for nursery (with heated proper for seedlings) Passive intakes and blue sticky traps (f*#@ing thrips).... Right , so , that's home for the girls (ignore the 4some on the floor they're not part of this show ). I mentioned before about the water, well, Ice Cool has responded well and the yellowing is subsiding (still waiting on test results ) Cream Caramel was desperate to move into bigger digs ... As you see Ice looks much better , although I hoped her roots would before advanced .... And Cream Caramel is looking happy too so I'm going to sign off for now. For those that waited and watched I thank you for your patience and to all who stop by a big thanks and keep on keeping on Peace Breezus

Guest
Well, chaos theory is now officially Chaos 101 ( @Sweet Seeds-tommy you can change the diary name too if possible). Having already discussed thrips, yellowing and space and time issues we can now officially add "weird water" as labelled by the lab . I sent a tap water sample (24 HR airing first) to a lab as I mentioned. Well, the results came back and I will quote the important info : not surprised you need the results, you have officially weird water in my opinion (had to test it twice to be sure I had not made an error). Results below in parts per million ppm except pH (which is -ve log of hydrogen ion concentration if you ever wanted to know) Calcium........26 ppm Magnesium...46 ppm Sulphate........8 ppm Alkalinity.........220 ppm pH..................7.8 ppm This water has very high magnesium levels both absolute (normal range in waters we test 2-25) and relative to calcium. A good ratio of Ca:Mg is 3-4 to 1 you have approx 0.5 to 1. The alkalinity is in the hard water range and not a problem, low sulphate surprising given the Mg levels but again not a problem. The issues with growing in this water is the Ca to Mg ratio, which will cause problems with nutrient uptake particularly in Coco or Hydro cultivation, it is not ideal for soil either. We can do a custom food for this water if growing in Coco or Hydro,(had good results with a similar water in Notts ) have to check the maths for soil, but my advice for soil growing in this water is find out what the local allotment holders do and copy it. So in conclusion if you are having problems with your plants it is almost certainly the water. Now, I'm no chemist but this seems like something I can't simply fix, so, anyone with chemistry knowledge and some idea of a solution I am all ears. I will plod on with the diary and see if I can nurse a couple of nice buds from these 2 beauts and do Sweet Seeds some justice in spite of the ever present chaos . I need a fat one and a good tune ....

Guest
@m99 thanks mate, they've taken to the new homes and the now properly adjusted water . How I didn't kill them with mg I have no idea . Thanks for popping in, I'll put up more pics this weekend
Guest
Nice clean set up @Breezus. Good luck with them. I know you've been worried about your water and effect, but they look fine to me mate, so hopefully it won't have a knock on effect and those roots will power some might buds
Guest
Thank you @bobnudd, things are definitely picking up, the adjustments have worked and those roots are very happy looking. Really appreciate you stopping by and taking a peek. Good luck by the way Peace Breezus
Guest
those little ash plugs are intriguing, seems like you have hard water so no extra cal/mag required. once those colydens come off the seedling stage is over I always try and pull them off a bit early so that stage can be over. Really do not like the early stages of development. They are the hardest to get right imo. All the best with the rest. 93junglist
Aside the dodgy water and thrips they looking great. Get on some provado ultimate bug killer from b and q if them thrips take hold, I had quite the infestation with my first grow and one spraying of that sorted them right out. Funny I hadn't even considered them with this grow, I guessed they wouldn't be around in winter... Not so. Looks like you're on it anyway. Good luck
