Flintstone
I made it!!! 50m of bramble, gorse, hawthorn and ankle high nettles negotiated! The last 5m was all bramble, which was heaven just being able to stand up straight! Took around an hour, dripping with sweat, I stripped off when I got there! Here it is: Ground is the same as plot 2. Not much topsoil. 6-12 inches then thwack! Found a nice mound of earth near some hawthorns which was another 10m away but only through gorse. The soil from underneath the gorse is easily harvested too. Should be able to knock up some planters!
Mohamedbear
It felt so good to be back out at the plot today getting the first bit of real prep of the year, what gorgeous weather! I've been expanding my plot from last year and I think I'm doing it justice because where I've expanded it to will get the longest direct sun from the whole plot but I'm gonna fill it this year I wan't it as if your looking down from above you won't be able to see soil just green and then I've got a few other places where I'm doing holes instead of a bed for stealth and it's easier on the back. A couple of dinafem og kush going in here as well as loads of of ws07 x rd crosses and some auto diesel haze x royal dane this may change but I best get prepping more plots because I've got loads more seeds and some dinafem white widow xxl's, whoop whoop I can't wait! And check out this for a fecking badger hole, I could literally stand in it with plenty to spare.
Mr blue
Found this beauty this week Its about the size of half a football pitch, surrounded by thick gorse and looks like it will be a sea of nettles come summer. Only a 20 minute bike ride from my house as well

flighty
@yabbah I don't no, it's heavy clay so difficult to dig deep.
yabbah
@beezee, oh okay. I only ask because my plot from last year has maybe 6 inches of soil at most with stone underneath. Debating whether it would be worth the hassle to turn over that 6 inches of soil and plant in to the ground or just continue growing in pots..
flighty
Go in the ground @yabbah the roots don't need to go deep as long as you give them plenty of space. If you were taking compost there anyway, mix it in when you turn the soil over.

My plot is about the only clearing with grass in it in the whole forest, it grows ferns in it during the summer, would this be a good indicator of somewhat decent soil depth/quality? At the moment i have around 70l of compost out there in pots and was planning on bringing another 80. Last year i was using 12l fabric pots and managed to get a couple plants quite big, around the 6 foot mark. This year i wanted to use 20l fabric pots and try get some 12 footers. Would the same results be achievable with the methods you describe? cheers for the info @beezee Edited March 24, 2017 by yabbah
