Bond
Hi, I'm off to B&Q later to get some bits and pieces, on my list is three fan controllers, two for the flowering area and 1 for the mother cupboard. My question is will the controller work on a normal bathroom extracter fan, as thats what i have in my mother cupboard? Thanks Bond
Guest nigfis
Should do mate.. [Edited to add: I may be wrong. Someone more knowlegable than me should confirm this.] As an aside, if you can get one of those Honeywell thermostat units, a junction box and some cable, you can make a very efficient controller for your room. Raz just built one and it works perfectly..
Kmus2K
I use the B&Q fan controller with a RVK fan and it work great, I`m not sure it will work with a standard bathroom extractor as these are not designed to be controlled (unlike the specialist extraction fans)

Guest nigfis
Nigfis, thanks for the link, excellent instructions, even i should manage to hook that lot up!!! Cheers Mate!!!Bond 273937[/snapback] Cool! Your local plumbers merchants should carry the Honeywell thermostat. If you decide to build it and have any questions, I can always refer back tro the one Raz built. Glad to be able to help mate.

bigfatkingl
Hmm, i just used a light dimmer switch to dim the power going to my 2 bathroom extraction fans.
Bond
Big Fat King, And this is working OK?
bigfatkingl
I'm sure someone is gunna tell me this is dangerous but i was strapped for cash so i bought the cheapest dimmer switch B&Q have and the two fans seem to run off it fine. I'd check with others before recommending it though. I'm now thinking about giving the thermostat controlled switch a go.
Bond
Thanks for your reply mate! I will use the recomended fan controller, but its good to know that the normal; extracter should work with a dimmer! Thanks Bond
Themadhippy
the fan controller will have a minimum and maximun power rating,as long as your fan is within this range you should be ok.using a dimmer switch may work, however a fan motor is an inductive load which some dimmers dont like ,also the initiall starting current of a motor can be 6x it running current, again this could cause problems
Kmus2K
B&Q fan controller is 40w min, can`t remember the max - I think its 120w
