Uncle Larry Posted June 21, 2012 Share Posted June 21, 2012 Hi UK420, Stumbled on this site looking at different grows and liked it so I decided to join and post my new grow. I was also inspired by the Think Different grow by Seymore Budz and immediately bought the beans after I saw his vid. I set this up in a friends garage and we are splitting the harvest. He doesn't really know how to grow and I've been growing a few years now. He is a retired former neighbor that doesn't get around very well, so I'm trying to help him out and get lots of bud for both of us! We are both legal medical marijuana patients in Washington State, USA. My name is Uncle Larry because, well I have a couple nephews and my name is Larry! Wish I could have called myself something cool, but can never think of a good name! This is a brand new and fairly inexpensive grow set up and I'm hoping for good results. All the equipment is new except an old magnetic ballast. Here are the specs: 5x10x7 Tent 1000W HPS on light mover running 20/4 8 Earthboxes with aerated reservoirs (wick system) 10" exhaust fan One Think Different in each planter Several days before the tent got here I started germinating the seeds... Getting the tent up Pretty easy to set up so far QC inspector seems happy Light rail is up! Fixture hung! (This is vertical grow btw!) Getting the ducting hooked up... Nephew has the Earthboxes almost finished... Light mover working fine Circulation in one corner. The other corner will be added later... Air Got the boxes in the tent... Fill er up! 20 Gallons went fast! A little clean up and I'll be back in a couple days! Now you're all caught up! More pics being taken this Friday and I'll try to post them this weekend sometime. Glad to have you watching! I'm also glad about the progress with medical marijuana here too. Sure is nice to be legal. Amazing how much that piece of paper gives you peace of mind! Liking the look of this I'll keep looking in to see what you think of the General Organic nutrients,seen them around & there's a couple bits in their range I'm thinking of trying. Thanks! I'm loving it so far. Since this tent came with 10" ports I decided to go with the larger fan and ducting (and I think it looks cool too ). In previous tent set ups I chose the cheaper/smaller fan and it was never quite enough. Ideally I'd have two 1000W or two 600W. There is an arm made for the light rail to add another light so it would be pretty easy. I had a used 1000W magnetic ballast lying around when I was planning this, so thought I'd use it, but I don't have enough amps available to add a 2nd 1000W. I could barely squeeze in two 600W with the amperage I have, but I'd have to buy two new 600W set ups, so decided one 1000W on a light mover will do for now. The Earthboxes are a wick system. I have similar in a different grow and I'm really happy with them, but this is my first time with Earthboxes. They are one box with two sections. The lower section is reservoir and the upper is medium. They are separated by a perforated shelf about 3" from the bottom. The bottom container has two 3" square corners on either end of one side. These are perforated around the edges so the water in the reservoir flows into them and the top is open to the medium above. Each are packed tightly with medium to create the wick then the upper level is filled with medium and the plastic cover put on top. When the reservoir is filled the water and nutes wick up to the upper level to feed the roots. The cover on top reduces the evaporation. Gives the plant as much water as it wants whenever it wants it, but does not over water. I put an airstone in the reservoir in each to keep the res aerated and because my similar style wick boxes in a different grow get roots all the way down in the res similar to DWC. I've grown DWC quite a bit and know how much the plants like that, so I'm trying to hybrid these I guess ! Here is a sketch to try and show how it works. I hope its understandable I'm not a very good artist!
