Retro Console Gaming - Anyone?

I've just ordered myself the Bitmap Books 'PC Engine - The Box Art Collection' book and it made me wonder if any of you fine folk were/are into retro systems still? As a child of the 80s, the 90s were my heyday in terms of gaming and I've never quite got my head past that era, for whatever reason. I don't really 'get' games much these days, all too realistic and serious for my tastes. I was always into the grey import scene, and we had a few game shops locally and not too far afield that catered for us really well (Raven in Beckenham was my go-to for PC Engine titles) and we had a great little shop just up the road that became a bit of a hang-out for all the local gamer kids. It was a great time. Super Famicom, Megadrive, NES, Neo Geo, PC Engine... so many wonderful games and memories. :)

Ooooooh yes, still got a snes, nes, playstation, pong, n64, gameboy, gamegear, a mario watch(lol), gamecube, master system, megadrive, xbox :D , don't play them as much as i'd like too, but hey, all good fun, and even with that i mainly grew up on an old amstrad that got upgraded not literally, to an at the time killer 386 :D:D:D

@BilgePump haha, yes - that was our first home console too! Not sure whatever happened to it - my dad reckons he still has it somewhere.

@MoT nice collection bud :) I have a PC Engine Core Grafx, Super Famicom, Megadrive Mini (had to flog my original MD) and a Neo Geo X (have a google about it, bizarre machine and quite controversial haha). I have a Gameboy somewhere, must be at my dads house tucked away in a box in the loft most likely. Like you, I don't play them that much but I know from the last time I sold my treasured consoles, I would live to regret it so I'm hanging onto them!

Dreamcast's, Saturns etc all a little bit after my golden era tbh - I don't think I've even played on one!

PC Engine was always the one for me, I lusted after one after seeing the pics in old C&VG mags BITD. I still wish for a Duo though, that sleek, black and purple beast!

I still remember walking into my mates house one morning before school, and he had got the Japanese mega drive, before the UK release I guess. Sonic the Hedgehog blew me away that day - I'd never seen anything so bright and beautiful in a game. Not too long after, I bought one with my birthday money. Megadrive is an awesome machine tbf - with some brilliant games. Eventually, I did a swap at my local games shop for a US SNES, that thing was utterly brilliant. A lot of people hated the way it looked, but I loved it - and the pads were nicer than the JP or UK versions too. Plus - you didn't have to totally fuck up the faceplate to allow it to play JP games either. Just snap off two little plastic tabs inside the cartridge port and away you went.

I might play Quackshot later.

Im not really a gamer ,   my first real play with arcade style machines was an Atari  .... still one in the cupboard ,  also got an original Xbox with Colin Mcrae Rally & Tiger Woods Golf lol

Consoles , from PS through to Wii's,   nintendo hand helds ,    i dont play them but i was partial to the Xbox Rally :george:     Quite life like and yes i used a MK1 Escort and Tranny Van

Won a few seasons outright and thoroughly enjoyed it  ,   might just have to dig it out !!  :yep:

I keep them here for the mrs grand kids  ,   keeps them quiet for a while and out from under my feet in the workshop lol

I had a lot of different console/gaming machines in the late 80's onwards as my mum was a gamer lol, I personally stopped buying console after Xbox 360 after that console i went back to PC after about 2 decade break as i couldn't bring myself to buy a Xbox One.
