Seed storage - Germination issues

Got a good friend who is a bio chemist. She uses cotton wool in the lab for seed germination so I follow her lead - something to do with oxygen retention within the cotton wool structure and a few other factors I didn't really take note of or understand. She also uses cyanohydrins for seed germination but thinks it's wise I don't mess around with cyanide laced solutions !! Hydrogen peroxide is the only thing she thinks I'm capable and responsible enough to use :-)
