BilgePump
Sacks of slug pellets?! Jeez that's serious I'm guessing you've got slug gone wool pellets if they're in a sack , and possibly lava lite "no slug" as the sand option. Double that copper tape up because slugs will climb over an inch thick strip of that stuff , two strips next to each other is much more effective 1 Link to comment

Quite a mouthful. It was the only slug pellet on the shelf at B&Q. If there's something better, please let me know. ETA: yes, the lavalite sand - any good? Oh, and also ETA to clarify that I did not try and insert 4.5kg of pellets into my mouth, as suggested by the sentences above This is how I picture @Revive spoiling his girls with umbrellas at plots across the UK Bloody rain Edited June 8, 2022 by Gaijin 7 Link to comment

BilgePump
@Gaijin that lil lot should be adequate but if for any reason you still get attacked by the gastropod menace have a look into nemasys nemaslug , it's a soluble nematode worm mix you just water on for a few months of control per application 2 Link to comment

Building some protection for them tomorrow. The Slugfort. Cheers @BilgePump I haven't seen one yet But I remember this garden last year, at whatever time of year it was, walking outside to a carpet of the things every night. I'll grab some of that nemasys stuff just in case eta: there's a website called Nematodes Direct Edited June 8, 2022 by Gaijin 3 Link to comment

AnonyMice
Best of luck mate. Will be following along picking up some info. My first grow and GG this year. What does having them trained down like that do? Will they start growing side wards + new growth upwards? Sorry for dumb question, it’s intrigued me as a novice. I’ve yet to learn much about training at all. 2 Link to comment

Bent over like that, all the side branches grow straight up as well, and all of them grow a nice “main bud”. I think overall you get an increase in yield. And you get a shorter, flatter bushier canopy. Easier to “hide” in amongst the missus’ flowers Edited June 9, 2022 by Gaijin Apical dominance might be the word I was looking for, but sometimes my brain invents words for me to test out, unknowing 3 Link to comment
murphyblue
Had them nemaslug down in my borders in garden slimey bastards ate whole row right down the border of "teddybear" sunflowers in one night. Been down about 3 weeks and seeing very little activity since so it seems they do work. Gaijin ur right about the dominance thing just keep the main top as low as possible and it works a treat u should be fine in the garden as u can keep adjusting. But out in the wild its a bit harder i visited plot tuesday bent a few went back yesterday and they were all back upright. 2 Link to comment
Gaijin
@murphyblue yeah definitely gotta get on top of those slugs. It only takes one evening and all your hard work's gone 3 Link to comment
BilgePump
You can get nerf guns that fire rock salt guys , like a scaled down blunderbuss, think they're called bug assault guns or something , Ideal if you want to take slug patrol to the next level 1 Link to comment
Gaijin
@BilgePump Not cheap, those guns Found one for over £100 I think he has extra cartridges for holy water, etc 3 GG4s doing ok; still not sure what number 4 is going to be when she grows up She looks nothing like the other three. I wish I could grow out every single seed I pop, but I've really only got room for a sneaky 5 or 6, maybe 7. And I've got the Killer Madarine, Mazar, Dosidos and Wedding Cake to choose from when they get a bit bigger. Not sure I can justify keeping her just to find out. She's not exactly thriving either. Hmmm, probably have to get ruthless at some point, but for now we'll keep her going 10 Link to comment
Gaijin
We've had some lovely sunshine in the last few days, so we've been spending a lot of time outside I even took everything outside so that I could sit in the sunshine and pot up the 13 seedlings. A very pleasant hour resulting in 13 pots that looked exactly the same. Almost like clones of each other. Thirteen pots that can't be told apart because I forgot to transfer the labels from the old pots to the new It gets better. Yesterday the missus decided that our kittens can go outside for the first time. One or both chewed the top off of 8 seedlings. So now I have 5 seedlings that could be Mazar, Wedding Cake, Dosidos or Killer Mandarine What else did I learn over the weekend? I've sorted out my magnesium deficiency. I got a couple of 25L water containers to sit in the room and warm up a bit; a sprinkle of Epsom salts into each and all should be better now. I went to give the older ladies a wee splash of GA grow on Friday night and marvelled at how clear the liquid was compared to the root tonic. Rookie mistake number three I shook the bottle this morning and it's definitely the same dark syrupy colour as the root tonic. Lesson: shake the bottle Still haven't culled the Sativa-looking Gorilla Glue mutant, couldn't bring myself to do it Enjoy the sunshine 9 Link to comment
