topic title says summer.

here we had a very dry spring from 15th march till 1 june hardly any rain.

So this box can sure give a seedling a good start.

its all about the capilary working of the soil under the seedling.....right?:)

i see another advantage....the boxx keeps the seedling from freezing in may....

Let nature take its course.  Good preparation is the key in letting the tap root go deep.  If the tap root goes deep, little supplementary watering is necessary in the uk.

Huge sunken containers are about as effective as one can get outdoors.

Mate of mine used an old water boiler from a hotel.

Sump under it.

Sunk it.  Filled with compost, horse shit etc.  Plants grow massive.

yes...but in perma culture...there is no digging....as this guy said....do not dig...it distorts the capilary system of your soil....

i know its different from what we are used to...i see farmers waterhozes nearly every day in the bare soil in spring and summer...

the wick just keeps the soil moist enough to make it possible for the primary pen root to go down...

ps in a plant hole where i plant the 2nd year...i do not dig...just top dress early in the year...and plant out in may.....the worms have made a good capilary soil for me....but it needs always a bit of moisture.....thats where the boxx could come in...?..its just helping nature a bit....?

also summer and spring are becoming more extreme in last 20 years.....lots of water every now and then...longer periods without any rain.....thats good if it rains in the box too...?

And over the reed bed for purification.....

Preaching to the converted.

I dont need a plastic box to do permaculture outside and it is by no way a new or exciting subject.
