Billy's backyard bonus...

It's always a relief to see the buds beginning to get frosty....now if I have to crop the plant at short notice (due to budrot or some other reason) at least I know I'll get something that might conceivably give me a buzz..thankfully the weather the last week or two has been really good...another 2-3 weeks and I'm expecting this plant to be done..

Okay...just to update...from memory the 2021 Chronic was nothing amazing...perhaps I underfed it or something but the buds never really fattened up...anyway a bonus is a bonus...this year's effort is also nothing to shout about...a couple of freebie autos from Attitude...I can't remember exactly what they are...a cream mandarine and tangie 'matic I think...to be truthful I didn't organize well enough to do them justice...I germinated them early-mid June and potted them into some Aldi compost (it was all I could get at short notice)...anyway here's the pics...

....and a closer look at the bud from the plant on the left...a cream mandarine I think..

large.20220828_175056.jpg

....as with last year's efforts the buds are a bit small so I'd be happy to net upwards of a quarter from both plants combined...they'll probably get chopped in the next couple of days...

Again just a couple of freebie autos this year...there should have been three but one succumbed to stem rot early on...these two should be ready early August...sorry can't remember what strains they are..I think same as last year (a tangie 'matic and creme something)..it's been a wet few weeks but thankfully no sign of the dreaded bud rot so far...just to add they were started in their final pots (10L root pouches) indoors under fluorescents last week of May in compost from Poundland and moved outside after 10 days or so... after about a month or so they have been fed with a half to three-quarters strength tomorite solution made with water that's had banana skins soaking in it for a few days (not sure why...potassium or something)..anyway it's all good if I get some bud out of it..

A closer look at the important stuff...

large.20230720_152222.jpg

....lots of trichomes...they're definitely starting to look tasty ...I can hardly smell these plants but the missus insists they're stinking up the whole garden...I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle..:wassnnme:

I think these two are just about ready for cropping...I remember when I germinated them the breeder information said 10 weeks from germination to harvest and I'm reasonably sure it's been nearly 70 days now (I know the breeder information shouldn't be taken as gospel but they look to me like they're ready)...I'll be chopping this week...I'm pleased to report (without wanting to tempt fate) there's no sign of bud rot...quite miraculous considering how it seems to have been pissing down for the past month or so...I'm expecting the combined yield to be somewhere between half to one ounce...I'll be a tad disappointed with less than half an ounce and delighted with more than a full ounce..if you look closely you'll notice the pots are in a shopping trolley...this was simply to be a deterrent for slugs/snails by acting as an obstacle course...if you were a gastropod would you want to slither over cold metal just to bite on a leaf (if you didn't have to)?

large.20230731_110806.jpg

....here's a closer look at a top cola...nothing amazing in terms of size.....

large.20230731_110821.jpg

as can be seen with an image of the same cola with an adjacent cigarette lighter....but as always...a bonus is a bonus..

large.20230731_113701.jpg

...anyway...happy harvesting fellow growers...I hope your crops escape the ravages of the dreaded rot and all the other possible fuck-ups too numerous to list...:yep:

Ok...I've trimmed off the primary and secondary fan leaves in situ...so they're now experiencing the "plucked chicken" effect....I've posted a pic but it's difficult to discern very much because in this image they tend to blend into the background...I'm pleased to report there is no sign of bud rot anywhere...I'm debating leaving them as they are for another day or two before I do the final chop...is there any reason I shouldn't?...and also would there be any conceivable benefit in doing so? Any advice?

I've moved the shopping trolley (containing the plants) to a location that's conducive to getting a more discernible picture...so here they are...

large.20230806_091232.jpg

....they're enjoying some nice sunshine now but yesterday it pissed down relentlessly and the buds absorbed the rainwater like a sponge..I gave them a bit of wobble yesterday evening and I was genuinely shocked at the insane amount of water droplets they threw off...like when a wet dog shakes itself dry.... it made me extremely fearful (I believe the technical term is "shit bricks") about them getting bud rot just as they're finishing so I've decided to definitely chop them today ....

(unless I decide not to...you all know how it is)...:yep:

How did you get the shopping trolley? Just take the £1 loss?

My car wouldn't start (dead battery) after I had been shopping in a retail park so I took the shopping home all the way home on foot with a shopping trolley..I managed to get the car going with a (late evening) push start (I needed to wait until the car park was nearly empty to get a decent run for the push start) however I've never got round to returning the trolley..I never intended to keep it...it's just that returning it has never been high on my list of things to do...and yes...there's a quid still in it...

OK...so I finally got round to (roughly) chopping them today...I detected what I thought was a speck of bud rot and it forced my hand (on having a much closer inspection of the plants I think it was a false  alarm..just a bit of discolourization rather than the dreaded rot)...I might tidy them up a bit with further trimming if I can be arsed but probably won't bother...I tend to adopt a 1970s pornstar approach when it comes to trimming..

large.20230812_184352.jpg

...hardly a spectacular yield but (as always) a bonus is a bonus...having said that I'm a bit saddened about the plant that succumbed to stem rot...three plants would have been much nicer than two but c'est la vie...anyway I noticed at the base of one of the plants were a couple of airy tufts...(I'm reluctant to dignify them with the term "buds") which I pulled off, allowed to "dry" for about 20 minutes and then stuck a pinch in my xmax starry knock-off vapourizer (vapormate...available for an absolute bargain £29.99 online)...I managed to get a very decent buzz after a couple of 10 minute cycles of the vape...I'm looking forward to a proper sampling with stuff that's dried and cured...I'm just worried about having the patience to allow for a proper dry and cure before blasting it since all I've got at the moment is ABV...happy cropping folks and good luck with your yields...:yep:
