Reading back through an old diary and I was reminded of this spot I never returned to that I found one autumn day a few years ago... Big clearing in the middle of a patch of woodland that has no public access, about 4 times what you can see in the pic. It would be nice to plonk 100 autos about in there :smug:

look good ...but i like to know why there is a clearing...?....so why nothing grows there.....is it a used plot ?...any clues found this time or the time before ?

here we have places where criminals dump drug-chemicals in forrests.... :(

@DutchFoxThere's a very long old track from the clearing to a farm house a good 1/2 mile away. The track isn't so much of a track any more, its all overgrown and even has sapplings growing in the middle of it that looked a couple years old at the time. I've never walked all the way down it to the house, but I'm not even sure it goes all the way to the house any more. Haven't been back there in 3 years but to memory there's even a fence across it as you approach the house. If it's still unused I'll probably move on it quick lol

Found a nice plot yesterday a clearing but noticed patches of scratchings on the ground as if a dog had done it you could see claw marks. Would this be foxes? I couldn’t find any droppings anywhere definitely not rabbits or a dog. They were fresh and no obvious signs of entry exit.

i thinks its deer.....they have scent organs between their feed ( and antlers ).....just letting others know who is boss there :)

Day 1 involved strimming and cutting brambles with hedge trimmer

large.IMG_4641.jpeg.c366386e1dc5067d82ceccd21722b81a.jpeg

Day 2 involved the same followed by cutting down gorse and trees.

large.IMG_4654.jpeg.6daabe029f4ba8b52eebb5c4836ab964.jpeglarge.IMG_4656.jpeg.5e3695c050c155fe7d531e56d0bfceff.jpeg

The trees was only cut until i could push them over with some of the trunk still attached as the branches will still produce leaves which will help with cover

All i have left to do here is turn the beds over and holes and add chicken manure which will be done in March and then planting will get done in may and whilst there, will strim the plot again with all the new growth

Extended the plot i grew the seed Stockers strains in last season

When i got there

When i left

Cut a few gorse bushes down, trimmed all the brambles and then mashed everything else up with the strimmer

Have not dug holes or turned over the soil as i will wait until March/April to see if my cameras pick any signs of human and if not, i'll prep the holes/bed with amendments ready for May plant out

Visited another plot today as it's the only dry day forecast for a while that i'd have spare

On arrival

large.IMG_4686.jpeg.dae9420c2ad1860d90b21b9933da310c.jpeg

Didn't get everything done that i'd planned due to running out of spool on my strimmer

large.IMG_4687.jpeg.9f2c5f95bd478dc164c67e6fd36057b1.jpeg

I did however, turn over the holes and add a little chicken manure, not as much as usual but that's because i thought i had less holes than i actually did have. Will add more next visit.

Also used my hedge trimmer to cut a load of brambles down from around the plot.

That will improve airflow and remove the risk that would come from rotting berries later in the season

I popped over to the place i've been eyeing but when i got there and went to check on the cameras, they were both soaked inside so probably knackered

Drying them out in the faintest hope that they will be okay

So, the plots on hold until i check the memory card to see if there's no sign of human activity

Hopefully there's a few month of pictures before the water got in as they were there since last season

Lovely day for a bit of prep. Strimmed last years nettle, got half the perimeter fence up. Got another 50m of chicken wire and a fresh sack of chicken pellets ordered. Should have the first plot finished off next weekend. 2024 let’s go 💥
