What are your values

This doesnt need to be a set of values you have, it could be values you would like to have or are aiming for. It may be values you have right now because with time and changing priorities our values may change with our goals. This below is a list i found on the net, its not exhaustive and you can add your own values and ignore these.

If you had to choose 5 values that were important to you now what would they be, you can say why if you like but are not obligated to. Some might just scream out at you 'that's me' others may be less obvious.

Its not easy because there are so many and they change, but a few that stand out for me are- freedom, compassion, peace, justice and strength :)

Couldn't really choose 5, but the values I would aspire to (not necessarily ones I have...) would be things like empathy, trustworthiness, compassion and wisdom, and the ones that I don't value at all are things like wealth and success. I'd rather be a good person than a rich or successful one.

Wisdom was on my original list.. calmness this is something i aspire to. It would be cool to always act with decorum and calmness, especially when everybody else is loosing it, staying calm in times of chaos is something i value in others. I dont value wealth, health is much more important, there's no point in being wealthy if your unhealthy. Im not sure about success, i value the attribute of people who show courage and fortitude to rise above the pitfalls life throws at them and still become successful, but its not a top value of mine.

I think people will have a tendency to pick the 5 they'd like to be rather than the 5 they actually are.

I'm an idealist so my philosophy and values spring from the idea that all humans in their natural state are benign beings. Not sure you need to break it down into numerous adjectives though-just live a good life!

I think it sometimes helps to focus by having such a list, maybe not for everyone..but lets say you went for a job interview and were asked what your values are, its not an easy answer. Say for instance i value my health and need to lose weight and i achieve this, my next goal may be to make lots of money or have a family, my priorities have shifted, hence what i valued above all else earlier (the weight loss) is no longer what i value as much now. Now i might value wealth and prosperity more..so values are not necessarily static, but maybe a few core values never change.

Umm If someone listed Victory, Perkiness, Buoyancy, Piety, Saintliness etc in an interview as values id probably laugh.

Way too longer list to wade through, did you need to include so many pointless synonyms ? It really dosnt need to be 400 + long 50 or so would probaby suffice, probably not even that.

I have to ask are you not just confusing real "values with just listed words in the theasaurus as synonyms?

I did say i found the list online so i wasn't going to cipher through to remove what i considered was pointless, that would have been rather judgmental of me, my gf agrees with you though, she was having none of it .. i dont know what a 'real value' is because we all have different ideas of whats valuable. For instance you suggest Piety is just a pointless synonym but its a highly valued Roman virtue evidently and comes from the noun form of the adjective pius (which means "devout" or "dutiful"), so i guess it would depend on the kind of job you were going for.

We can also include cultural values, British values, Islamic values, middle class values, liberal values. Personally, one of my values is freedom as defined in the European Convention as the right to respect for ones Liberty, in other countries/cultures this personal freedom may be less important as say piety which as explained can be the observance or trait of a religious rule or family devotion or loyalty.

from wiki "The word piety comes from the Latin word pietas, the noun form of the adjective pius (which means "devout" or "dutiful"). Pietas in traditional Latin usage expressed a complex, highly valued Roman virtue; a man with pietas respected his responsibilities to gods, country, parents, and kin.[1] In its strictest sense it was the sort of love a son ought to have for his father."
