101 Atheist Quotes

The following 101 quotes are some that I have stumbled upon on the web, or seen in books / popular culture. Each quote was either written by an atheist, or is about atheism / religion in general.

2. Faith means not wanting to know what is true. - Friedrich Nietzsche

3. I believe in God, only I spell it Nature. - Frank Lloyd Wright

5. To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today. - Isaac Asimov

6. A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows. - Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

7. Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. - Seneca the Younger

8. Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned. - Anonymous

9. Not only is there no god, but try getting a plumber on weekends. - Woody Allen

10. If I were not an atheist, I would believe in a God who would choose to save people on the basis of the totality of their lives and not the pattern of their words. 20. The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. - Richard Dawkins

21. A God who kept tinkering with the universe was absurd; a God who interfered with human freedom and creativity was tyrant. An omnipotent, all‐knowing tyrant is not so different from earthly dictators who make everything and everybody mere cogs in the machine which they controlled. i wonder if my thinking of illustrius afterlife through a mental portal guided by the mind fusing with cannabis is a reality. i'm now preparing the path and am trying to purify my heart and mind, embrace our sweet lady as if she were a god and showing her your love and how peaceful are your thoughts so she will welcome us into her kingdom before we die.

mohammed, was a man. pontius pilate was a man, julius caesar was a man, buddha was a man, herod was a man, and jesus was a man. reason, no contemporaneous writings saying otherwise. sorry to see so many that doubt jesus existed.

theory; 1947, the qumran scroll, the dead sea schrolls, were kept for many years by the jews, because they contained manuscripts of isaiah, and daniel, which the jews did want anyone to know that the dating on isaiah and daniel would be confirmed and they would have to deal with their prophecies, one of which mentioned cyrus would capture babylon and predicted that the gate on the eurphrates would be opened. the other is of course the prophecies of the messiah.

last part of theory is that the jewish scribes have records, original no doubt but at least old copies. of every word jesus uttered pubicly. so the leaders of the jews would have these docs in safe places. therefore i assert that jesus was indeed an historical fact and that the words of this human have been fairly well preserved.

jesus may have just been a manic depressive with a messiah complex. a magician who faked his death, and then appeared very much alive after his death now able to walk thru doors.

jesus said he was god. and i believe him. jesus created everything. course he smoked dope so could have been trippn and lots of people were trippn with him.

It seems to me that the only true Christians were (are) the gnostics, who believe in self knowledge,

i.e.,becoming the christ themselves, reaching the Christ within. The light is the truth. All any of us is

trying to do is precisely that: Turn on the light.

- John Lennon

Religion may in most of it's forms be defined as the belief that the gods are on the side of the government.
