A Question about size for a 600w Grolux.

Hello GrowTeam,

ZigZag here. :guitar:

I have a question about the cubical I wish to erect in my Growroom.

I am going to use a 600w Silver Wing Reflector with Grolux lamp & was just thinking about the size of the Cubical to which it will live.

I only intend to try a 9 Plant Hydro-Pot set up first & dont wish to grow for maximum yield after that,

I'd would rather Grow for Quality rather than Quantity if you know what I mean. :stoned:

The guide for the 400w I'm told is 1.2mt x 1.2mt but I have a

600w so I'm thinking larger for this.

I was just looking for a Professional opinion.

Many Thanks in advance. :2finger:

ZZ. :D

ideally you want to give the plant 10,000 lumens so here goes,

a 600w light produces 150LPW (lumens per watt)

1 foot away from the plant the light emits 90,000 lumens

3 feet from the plant the light will be emitting 9,999 lumens, this is as close to 10,000 you will get so 3 feet is the hieght from your plant top

you want to give your plant at least a minimum 35 lumens per square foot

using this calculation a room 9 feet high by 3 feet by 3 feet with your lights hanging 3 feet away (so it can be adjusted to accomodate the final height of the plant and pot or reservoir which is about 5 feet) will produce about 66watts per square foot (plenty for a plant)

hope this helped :D

as an add-on:

It could be less tall and wider and deeper if you liked.

4x4x7 - would not be too large for that light (7ft would be height). 20 square feet (4x5) wouldn't be too much floor space.

Also - ZZ - accessing and watering the plants at the back gets more difficult as they get larger - consider leaving space around the perimeter to manoevre.

Also I got one of those pressure watering devices where you pump the handle and the water comes out of a very lightweight wand - so no sore backs from stretching with a heavy watering can. £20-£30 - a nice treat for later on.

tata!

All your words {& sizes} have been noted & I Thank You for  sharing Your wisdom.

Also Thank You hp for the tip about leaving room for  getting around the back of the plant..........I never thought of that.

P.S. I'm on to the the pressure watering device hp  :2finger:

I have a bad back. :D

No problems,

The pressure hose I bought - I got from Focus - £30 - made by Hoselock - I think. It holds 5 litres at a time which sits on the floor while you waft this wand about. The best £30 I've spent recently as watering and foliar feeding is a pleasure.

You can get them cheaper - but there's no price you can put on having a non-sore back.

Mj functions best at around 40,000 lumens per square metre.
