dustin boles
what is the correct way to use earth juice? ive read posts that say EJ has a very low ph if used right out of the bottle, somewhere around 3.5. they say to mix it 24 hrs in advance and circulate it by pump or air stone so it breaks down and the ph naturally rises. is that true, and how do you use the stuff. growinghome
I bought some Earthjuice nutes for the first time yesterday and thick, gungy consistency concerned me a bit can you use a standard bulb-type pH meter to track pH, or will the nutrients knacker it? Also, can you use an ordinary CF meter to measure nutrient concentration?
oldtimer1
Why would you want to track the ph? As soon as its added to compost the compost will buffer it. It won’t hurt your ph pen as long as you wash it after use in clean water pref with a little H2O2 in it. CF/EC meters are useless for measuring organic nutrients, they are for measuring salt dilution in water. Nearly all the nutrient value of organic ferts is locked up in with the organic components the fert is made of. Once it is in the compost/soil it is the the fungal/bacteria soil fauna that release it to make it available to the roots of plants. You just can’t compare this to dissolved chemical salts. That is why organic hydroponics don’t work that well.
