nomy
High all. I am getting very close to finalising all my plans and about to start my first indoor grow (Growroom completed at the weekend...Hurah ) As it's getting towards the end of summer, and it's a detached garage grow, I anticipate some cold days ahead. I will be lighting overnight to stabalise the cold a little, but should the days be cold too (too bloody right they will!), I was wondering if I can use a normal lighting dimmer switch to slow down my extraction fan during the dark periods? I understand that although the plants activity ( cant spell motabalism ) slows down at night, it still benifits from fresh air, so I understand the need to maintain extraction. I'd just rather not blast the plants with freezing temps. I have built a solid room within the garage itself. This room is 8' x 4' and 7' high and made of 3/4" chipboard so fairly warm within. I have divided the room in two with clone/mother room and veg/flower room. The air is drawn via the mother room where I will use a small heater on cold days, so at least if I can slow down the extraction the air gets a chance to warm a little. I will be using a 250m3 extractor btw. Sorry to waffle on, I'm just getting excited now Nomy.
TrichomeUK
High there, No, a regular dimmer is not suitable: you need a solid state dimmer, designed for ceiling fans. www.tlc-direct.co.uk do one for £9.95; check the ceiling fans page on their website All the best

2old2rock'nroll
Or if your fan operates from direct current, like computer fans 12 volts d.c., you can use a variable resistor (pontentiometer).
