Probably less headache to just buy a decent UPS Just sharing the build as some might find interesting. This is the DIY section after all

catweazle1
Apparently, at current prices, you save about 35% over a built one.
notunum
There is a company reconditioning these with new batteries, and selling them for £35. I used to test a lot of these batteries, that were kept trickle charged for backup duties. We changed them at 5 years, but sometimes we would see them last as long as 8. Lead acid will fail sooner if left discharged, but it's cheap now, with 100ah leisure batteries around £100 We got about 20 minutes from the 8ah (iirc) battery in ours. We couldn't use our digital controller though, as the AC motor audibly squealed. It was fine on a variac though, and we got the 8" to trickle along for about 40 mins, while the consumer unit (fuse box) was changed. It's not unusual (like right now) to see larger one's for £50. One's that will keep the fan and timer going, but also a light. Branded one's from companies that specialise in them. Boxes that in theory, did nothing all their lives. As these are disposals from large companies, they are changed with the regularity of the computers they pair with. They are also highly reliable, as there job is to be highly reliable. I don't mind buying one 'used' and they have diagnostic lights. I will post one in a separate post, as I have tried once, and my post vanished. All seems to be working perfectly. Switches my phresh hyperfan and G.A.S EC1 controller seamlessly from mains to battery without even a flicker on the screen. Jobs a good'un! HondaPanMan
Hi, I've signed up specifically to gather more info on this. I'm useless with electrics and wouldn't trust myself to attempt this but I need to know how I can have a back up for my grow as I live in a flat and would definitely get busted if there was a prolonged power outage. @BushDoctoR would you consider making me what I need for this if I buy the inverter, trickle charger, battery? I will pay you what ever it costs for parts and time? Cheers. Jim
latigid aikon
@HondaPanManBuy a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for a computer if you can't DIY it. Make sure it is a pure sine wave model and it should power a fan with no issues.
HondaPanMan
Thank you Latigid. I will look into that now.
