A 400w bulb on the 400w should work fine, I just dont run it this way as it only take the simplist of mistakes to actually blow your bulb. And as I say the 400w and 600w in terms of heat wont be that much different, but the yield is.

 

If your outtake system can handle a 400w HPS then it shouldn't struggle with a 600w. The amount of extra consumption, heat etc compared to the potential yield increase is a no brainer for me.

 

50% of the 400w is 200w, so you gaining an extra 50% light over the canopy for the same intial cost and maybe 20% extra electricity cost. Again for me it's a simple choice.

 

My first ever Diary on UK420 in about 2014 I was running a pair of 600w hps in basic shades in a room I built in the loft with minimal extraction, the room was maybe 1.2m x 1m, handled the heat just fine.
