remove upper leaves to allow light penetration?

I have ended up with quite a dense canopy without much in the way of colas, can I remove some of the upper leaves to allow some more light penetration? Last time I had something like this I ended up with quite airy buds, like popcorn and I am convinced it was from lack of light penetration.

I need to improve my training so I get taller colas, or just do a scrog. The pic is a bit crap but hopefully shows what I mean

They have been lollipopped, it's the bushyness that I am concerned about.

Keep croping them down and clean under canopy rather then up? End with just cola buds?

Yea, defoliating them.

I am scared to do it though, lol. I wondered if anyone else has done it.

I’d highly recommend you run one :yep:

It will show us more of what’s going on and we can sometimes help to stop issues before they become Problems.

It also is great to have a reference to be able to learn/adapt from :)

You get to see where you’ve improved etc

I'd strip them out you might lose a bit on yield but you will gain on quality

Yea, hopefully less airy/popcorny buds and more solid buds. I defoliated the one on the left and am leaving the one on the right, the one on the left needed it more anyway and this way I get to compare results. They are different strains though so it's not very scientific. Out of interest the one on the left is Seedstockers Gorilla Cookies and the right is KGB's Psychotropic.

I didn't go too drastic but you could see the floor when looking at the plant top down so I did take quite a bit off. The Psychtropic stretched a bit more and gave me some colas, whereas the GC was flat on top.

I think your in a pickle by this second picture lol

Those buds are getting scorched,I'd bent every bud on side, like bend it in half but don't break it. Or if you can dim ballast ,how strong is bulb?

If your on cash get parabolic that fits that will help

It's only the one bud that got scorched, it is significantly taller than the rest. I have raised the light and have room to do it more  It's a 250w about 10" away (now, that bud did get closer though). ;)
