Drying in lung room

Looking for a bit of advice from anyone drying plants outside the grow space.

I usually chop and hang my plants in the space they were grown. I've been considering just hanging them outside the growspace, which is where my intakes are drawing air from. Would this be OK? In my head it would as the air in the space the plants will be drying will pulled into the grow spaces, scrubbed then extracted.

I'm just a bit paranoid about smell and have never done it like this before. Always been in the growspace or sometimes a box attached to growspace if I've had to chop at different times.

I don't really want to make a separate drying chamber taking up space if it will work OK without.

Thanks

@Hazeytones

I often dry outside the groom, just hanging the plants in my loft as I dont have the patience to wait 2 weeks b4 getting the next lot flipped. however, the drying process and flavour is really hampered as the RH is too high. I've had dry buds one day that after a wet period outside, suck up the moisture and go all funny on me.

my advice. either dry in your tent or make a separate, controlled area.

using your lung room would work but what's the RH of it?

The smartest option for security etc is in the tent. The negative pressure isn't as good being further away from the filter.

If you're keen to get another plant in there asap, it's simple and cheap to convert a regular small cupboard into a nursery for your moms/seedlings. Look for the thread "Cupboard Porn" in design location threads.

Safety and security first, and the tent/growspace is perfect for controlling humidity. :yep:

Have you considered the wine cooler conversion? Totally controlled smell free environment, my latest run was dried in the cooler and the nicest bud I've grown to date

I use the open fronted cupboard under my loft where the intake comes from to dry weed sometimes. I've never had any bother in all the years I've used it. It's not a whole crop usually as I grow perpetual but there can be 15oz on there sometimes in different stages of dryness.

Sometimes I just hang it in the loft (not in summer of course), again never had any bother from the neighbours and I know them all. My problem is trimming, sometimes I'm naughty and don't do it at night and the neighbour over the road mentioned a massive stink the one morning. That was on the ground floor mind

@sweettooth the rh in the lung room is usually about 60% - 65% but does fluctuate with the weather.

@Slippy One I do have a small mother and veg space which is attached to the flower space, which is one of the reasons for wanting to dry outside of the grow space. The air going into the flower room is about 26 so a bit warm for hitting drying plants.

@5Lip I have indeed considered the wine cooler conversion. I'm just not sure if it would hold each crop, I think most were getting about a bar in one. Also found it quite hard to pick up a thermo electric cooler. What type of cooler did you convert?

@KC I think the risk, although may be fine isn't worth it. My neighbour parks right beside my grow space so like yourself try to do the trimming when no-one is about, but think hanging for two weeks might be a bit risky.

I think if I can find a wine cooler that's readily available is the way to go.

Cheers for the reply guys.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye a few have came up but wasn't sure if they were thermoelectric or not.

I'd buy 2 if you needed more drying room, I see them all the time on FB marketplace but yes they do need to be thermoelectric

Yeah I'd say two would be perfect. I was looking at the klarstein barolo 28 uno but thought it was a bit expensive at just over £300. I don't do Facebook but I've had a look on gumtree but nothing really coming up.

I paid £20 for my cooler (2nd hand) and about the same for a small dehumidifier but the main (huge) advantage in my opinion to any other drying environment is the ability to control RH which creates the perfect drying environment and the perfect end result

I’m keen to learn more about these coolers now I’m growing indoors only. Anyone know i

what type of fridge or cooler is needed? And what mods are needed to control humidity inside it?
