a handful of grapes
Hullo all, long time lurker first time poster from not the UK anymore honestly. Been growing my own for about fifteen years, first harvest in 2008 (250W HPS in a 60cm by 60cm tent), found the process highly satisfying even addicting . I was an early adopter of coco coir to soil/clay/perlite mixes and "blurple" LED panels some ten years ago, glad to see all that new technology getting took up so well across the board! Recently I've been looking to scale my stuff up mostly cos of the recent leccy price surge (bigger tent, better genetics, same ten year old LEDs...), so I finally went and joined this a properly european forum with all the civilized people using mostly metric units, not that I mind the barbarians but the extra digits from conversion sort of does my head in. Anyway, cheers all, -ahog

grooving
Welcome to the site. Have you considered a living soil grow? Some lovely examples hereabouts…
a handful of grapes
Just now, grooving said: Welcome to the site. Have you considered a living soil grow? Some lovely examples hereabouts… Thanks! Fraid I'm very much set in my ways for medium, going from straight soil to coir/dirt mixes was such a massive step up for effective root volume and water retention (under HPS back then still) I must've baby ducked myself into it for good. Also I've been extra wary of introducing any beasties (besides what comes in from the NL organic bottles that smell like chocolate) since losing three grows to spider mites a long while ago, clearly that's irrational but still. The concept of "feeding the medium, not the plant" isn't entirely lost though, never got into those fully synthetic ferts for that reason.

That grow diary, I def want to do that (and holy hell there's a lot of them), maybe even before I've got my stuff dialed in proper, but maybe after... get a couple of longterm mums set up and so on for some consistent yields, get my basics nailed down again and then start experimenting more systematically, that living soil idea is stuck in my head for sure. I figure there'll be a few things I'm apt to do different from where the forums have converged, maybe mostly indifferent or worse and maybe a mild improvement or two with a bit of luck! Such as when to start grow ferts, ppl seem to use a schedule or go by cotyledons dying or a node count, where I've just looked at the vegging plants daily and then given them a sip once they seem to slow down or turn a slightly paler green.
