snotbottom
When they first break through the surface is it best to keep them on 24/0 for a few days or should they go straight into 18/6? 1 Link to comment
Military Grade
i normally just do 18/6 from the start, 24hrs light would probably be wasted energy, the DLI for a seedling can't be that high. 2 Link to comment
Slippy One
They like a decent 6hr dark period to expand the roots 3 Link to comment
Hazeytones
Yeah I have a light on 24/0 until they break the soil surface then switch to 18/6. I think they can stretch a bit more if they breakthrough and the light happens to be off at the time but as soon as they do I switch it. 1 Link to comment

Slippy One
If I was rich enough to give them 24/7 lighting at the start, I still wouldn't coz nature. 1 Link to comment

KC
If you veg a plant 24/0 it will still root. 3 Link to comment

That is why Northern Sweden is covered in trees and Skidoos. 12mths on 12mths off. Personally, I go the 18/6 route so I can veg plants under the same lamp too and save enough money to buy a 1 penny Mojo Chew. Yum! 2 Link to comment
Sid the Seedkiller
I've tried both, definitely better (imo) if you go straight into 18/6, that dark period has its purpose as well. 1 Link to comment
KC
20/4 is a comprimise, I do this in winter and 18/6 in summer. Link to comment
Amarillo slim
I think a couple hours of dark can be beneficial for the plants, but I mostly do everything on 24 for ease and because certain genetics require it. Only time bother with lower is if matching daylight hours for moving outdoors or having to stinge on leccy for practical reasons (solar , bills in rental etc.) 2 Link to comment
