Using oil extracts for baking

Strange Cargo

Recommended Posts

I have some well cured oil produced by a solvent extraction (honey oil?) and I want to use it to bake some edibles.

What is the best way to get it suitably dispersed in the ingredients? Can I just melt some butter and try to dissolve/disperse it in the butter, and if I do will the butter separate and resolidify in a slightly different form from what I started with. If butter won’t resolidify the same would I be better off using an alternative like coconut oil, and if I wanted to only substitute only part of the butter in the recipe for coconut oil might I have problems dissolving/dispersing the extract in the oil because there would be quite a lot more extract to dissolve for a given weight of coconut oil? I would probably be aiming to dissolve the extract at a ratio of about a gram of extract to either 25 grams of coconut oil or 125 grams of butter.

Just melt the fat of your choice,

then add your oil.

Mix well on a very low heat for a minute or so then remove from the heat.

Some recipes might require melted butter/fat so you can use it straight away,

others require a more solid form.

Once cooled enough pour it into a container to allow it to solidify.

Then use as required :)

Be careful with edibles,

they can be more than is expected lol
