Theone420
Hello gents. Apologise I don't post much but I like to keep myself to myself. I have a question though. Has anyone replaced the carbon in their air filter? I am curious is it the same activated carbon that is used in water filtration? Seems a waste to chuck the old casing if I can just exchange the media
blerie420
Interested in this myself! Heap of waste that I'd honestly love to avoid. Hope someone comes along with answers!
Mr mcgregor
I tried to source some replacement carbon, online to no avail . £100+ for what's basically 3 kg of carbon in a perforated tin can is a piss take. I 'recharged' the carbon in my old rhino in the oven at gas Mark 9 for two hours,it stank the place out,the filters working again though. As a last resort ,you could empty your used filters into your compost heap (biochar). If you find a source of Australian virgin carbon let us know.
Personunknown
I did it with fish tank carbon, but as you can't repack as tight it wasn't as effective as a new one , if you had a vibrating plate then maybe worth doing(fitness vibrating plate maybe?)
Slippy One
You'll need a vibrating table to pack it in tight enough. I took 3.4kg out of one of mine, no matter what I did, could only get 3kg of the same sized pellets back in. Save the headache and buy new. Carbon filter are always cheaper than legal fees if you come across a nosy neighbour curious about the smell.

Go by volume not weight as the pellet form is heavier As for compacting, washer on full spin is great idea also if you have a detail sander, 1/3 sheet sander or a multi tool does the trick as well Piece of piss to do - just do it outside
