Ecto
Hey, spent the evening setting up my environment and I think everything is cool apart from the noise that comes out the vent cover that I am extracting air out! It the noise of the fan that I can hear from the vent end, are there vent covers that dampen sound or any other ideas to reduce this?? Thanks
GSZZ
Its not the fan you can hear, its air moving and gushing out of the end. simply put there are 2 ways to tackle this, the first one is to slow down the air movement so its not gushing out of the end of the ducting - this is exactly how a "silencer" works. The other option is to make the exit point BIGGER, the larger the surface area it has to escape the less turbulence it will create as it exits the duct.
Ecto
Ok, think i may use a 8" duct from the fan to the outside and get the bigger vent too, what about boxing in around the vent cover with MDF or something? obviously with air still being able to escape somewhere
BasementBudz
I use acoustic ducting and it seems to dampen the sound of rushing air pretty well for me
