Regular seed ratio

For a very large number of seeds.

That's not how probability works, any individual (reg) seed has a 50% chance of being male and a 50% chance of being female. No other seeds make any difference to that.

Yes, but you won't likely see that figure, in reality, unless there is a very large number of samples... toss a coin ten times, and it could be any expression, but toss it 10000 times, you will have a ratio closer to 50;50.

@LoveBudd What draws you to regs? Have found fems and autos underwhelming?

Its what I started growing many moons ago. Auto's n fems came out & I got caught up in that for a bit. I remember better yields & less fussy n sensitive plants.

I've found most packets of regular seeds throw up more females than males. I have had the odd packet that just did mostly males but it is very rare. My last packet of 5 turned up 4 females and one male. I hope I haven't cursed myself, it's seed popping time for me soon.

I recall many years ago, Mel Frank's book on growing, he stated that to increase the chances of a female plant, make sure that the tap root is undisturbed and allowed to grow straight downwards and not to wrap round itself. I don't know if there is any truth in that?

There have been many ideas banded about about increasing female to male ratio, more blue light was one of them. I can't recall if it was lower temps or higher for more females, at a guess I'd say lower as I struggle with low temps and I do get much more females. Without doing a massive experiment it's just speculation though.

I have grown regs for 20 years and when I pop some seeds I just plant double the amount I want females. So if I want 4 females I will plant 8 seeds. It generally works out but if I got less females than needed I just veg for a bit longer so the plants fill the space I have.
