[MLD2020]

Evening all,

 

I am just about to setup my first grow. No expense was spared in what I bought. I decided to go Down the DWC But not RDWC. The DWC route appeals most to me over soil and other methods.

 

i visited my hydro store and they said they were busy and to do all orders online and collect.

 

i ordered x8 20L buckets with Lids and baskets.. online it didn’t give any dimensions to the baskets “there is nothing to them I suppose” however I was expecting 5” or 6” shallow baskets. But what I unboxed when I got home was the very very deep baskets almost not far off the bottom of the bucket. They are a culture basket though . They look the part and I guess it will work but as the roots grow there won’t be the moisture pocket between the water and the roots unless the air gaps within the clay pebbles will suffice? 

 

would you plant the seedlings at the very top or an inch or 2 below the line of the lid. Probably need about 5-7L clay pebbles per basket if filling right to the top.

 

if you struggle to understand me I apologise but advice or technique is much appreciated. If I can attach pictures I will do so tomorrow.

Hi mate. Good luck with your first grow. If it were me I would start smaller. 8 X 20L DWC buckets would make a small rainforest to me. How much lighting are you planning on using? 

 

You do have to remember the guys in the shops are salespeople and not necessarily offering the best advice.

When I start my cuttings or seedlings once they’ve rooted the plugs they are first put into I bury them a inch or so from the top of the nets just so the plugs are covered and no algae grows on them. Once in net pots I hand water for a week or so to get the roots coming out and then put them into the system

Yeah after setting up a few bits earlier I have realised that 8 is far to many. I will be growing dwarf strains but I’m going to see how it goes with 4/6 per tent.

 

i want to grow Moby dick XXL but I’ve heard it’s stinky and don’t want to alert the neighbours
