hi

can i mix the DE with the neem oil and then use that in water and washing up liquid to spray my plants to keep the fungus gnats at bay or prevent them from moving in?  DE is like glass sharp and abrasive so it will kill the gnats, if sprayed all over the plant including underneath and main stem ?

whats the best technique of mixing it?

thanks

apart from the spray bottle getting clogged  , what else could go wrong??

the plants are not going to suffer huh!?   ill be using potsill with the mix too, that doesn't need to be emulsified does it???large.neemmix.jpg

not if the bottle gets clogged they won't lol

seriously mate, fungus gnats are really only in and out of the soil, they don't damage the plant, the larvae are the problem so i would add it to the soil, no need to spray it and i think it would be a waste to do so.

ive added DE to the soil too, and it seems to be working little fuckers dont land on the soil as from what i observed last night,  thought ill go the extra mile so they dont bother my plants again by spraying the whole plant !!!!

lol !!!

@dill786 das DE is only really effective when it's dry. By mixing it with neem you're making a pretty useless smelly paste I'm afraid to say. The neem will glob around the sharp shards of DE making it safe for pests and will stop it from drawing water out of things it cuts too.

Edit: Also spraying leaves with anything opaque is counter productive. You're hindering light hitting the surface.

@dill786 That's OK mate, as I said - first hand is the best way of learning.

The potsill increases a plants defences but once you're already infested it won't cure it. Neem is most effective as a deterrent (or in concentrated form if used as a treatment) and won't cure an infestation. Did you use horti soap or anything to emulsify the neem at least?
