ELO Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 I just ordered a bulk spool of xline fluorocarbon there 12lb and a spare spool for my shimano reel. Got braid on it the now and don't want to strip it off cause it's expensive but would like to be able to try something different at times as well. Ah I love sea fishing mate, only went once last year down in Devon, was a lovely day on the boat.. Going to make an effort to go more this year, the wife loved it as well. You do any other sort of fishing mate? more of a time issue but as @@gb1 said, you got to make the time to fish so am going to try and make it out at least once a month. I'm most competent with a fly but luv all fishing, right now I wanna get a new match rod so I can chill by a lake, catapult some maggots or corn out, crank the vape up and maybe catch the odd bream,tench or smaller carp. I found I had to use ethier the 17lb or preferably 20lb overwise I would just get random snap ofs on the cast it would just part for Some reason same problem with p line but the 20lb xline was awesome just give it a good stretch buy going down the fields or somwere tie it to a post and walk it right out and give it a good stretch then reel back in it behaves so much better and casts better to makes it a Lil more supple! Guest Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 Bucket of water overnight then replace cold water for hot as your hand can take, leave this ten mins to warm up. I put a baileys glass with a few big leads in on top to stop it spinning. Anti clock wise with just the butt section of the rod, use a hot wet cloth in your right hand to trap the line against the rod blank so its tight between cloth and reel and stretch it on a little bit and itll behave lovely. I like both myself Them Bait boats are just a rip off really, it can take you're end tackle and a few Kgs of bait to you're desired swim. I've not used them, and would never buy one. Green rivers Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 Personally I never bother with soaking line or chucking it in a bucket of water and loading it that way. All you need to do (and this will work fine with sensor, or any other mono) is have the end of the spool of line facing your reel and make sure the line leaving the spool is coming off anti-clockwise, as your reel loads it clockwise (usually) this ensures no twist and the line will be loaded on your reel same as its loaded on the spool. Hope this makes sense. By far the best way I've found to keep line twist to a minimum, which is always unavoidable, eventually, with fixed spool reels. Like you I spent several years fishing for barbel, almost obsessively. And while I do miss it, it's been kind of nice to have a break. I'm looking forward to my son being old to come fishing with me. He WILL be a fisherman wether he likes it or not ive been reading Mr. Crabtree to him at bedtime, tho he seems to prefer Mr Men or peppa pig at the moment Edit- I reckon you've a good chance of decent conditions before the season ends. Captain Bonglington Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) I used to wade down the floodbank on the Severn, stood up to my waist in water with the rod on high rests, so I could get the fish back up past the lip. Used to get some funny looks from walkers. I love extreme conditions, I remember fishing during the opening week in 2007, I couldn't see the water, just a sea of orange gas canisters going by at about 30mph. That was a bit much! I've found myself in silly situations a few times, where I've had to have a sensible word with myself that's it's just not worth it. Had I slipped or fallen in somehow there'd have been absolutely no chance of getting out alive. No fish is worth that.
