uBercaMeL
The more pics I look at the less I'm sure what I have are even root aphids.. These seem to have a more distinct head (separation between head and body) than many pics show.. Doesn't help that most threads on weed forums are misdiagnosed hypoaspis miles (irony) or fungus gnats ..
butler
Some awesome video info on fungus gnats (as well as help distinguishing from root aphids) here: How To Get Rid of Fungus Gnats (only about six minutes long and well worth a watch!) uBercaMeL
Don't think those are root aphids, they could be hypoaspis or cucumeris (beneficial predator species). Edited January 7, 2017 by uBercaMeL

Thai Stick
Gunna dig this post out and say, I've found root aphids on a friends plants in what seems to be a healthy population I was actually treating the soil with Bti to combat a suspected fungus gnat infestation when these root aphids suddenly started appearing out of the fabric pot of 1 plant in particular. I have never seen the likes of it in all my years of growing. Hitting it with that and some stuff from the states called Organishield. Anybody ever find a good Protocol for wiping these guys out? highgrower
Im pretty sure i had them at one point - not sure but think submerging the pot in hot water (45 or so) may be an effective treatment - i seem to remember doing that and didnt kill the plants but dont remember the outcome now and if it killed the aphids.
