At Long Last I've Fondled One..............

like many of you, I've had a butcher's at the fans in the uk420 store, and wondered whether they were any good..................today I got my hands on a 4" fan and filter combo! Right from the off, there's no question this is not a kiddies toy - its a genuine industrial fan - built substantially of hefty metal in Spain by a company called "Chaysol" - I have a feeling that we'll hear a lot more of them - they're built in one of the largest and most modern fan factories in Europe to very high specifications - so don't run away with the idea they are in any way "cheap" - top quality! I tried a cheapo "fan dimmer" to control it - silky smooth response all the way up the rev range - and remarkably quiet, even full throttle! The filter is of similar substantial build, and the fan sucks like it ain't there! - I'm impressed! ;)

So should you want to buy yourself THE most important part of a grow - it'd make a wonderful christmas pressie to yourself! :)

just in case you're a newbie - all profits go to help keep the site running....... ;)

Tell me about it, nearly put my back out collecting mine the other week and had to get some well strong bungees to hold it up with. :)

a bit more about the company...........

"The Ventiladores de Chasyol SA (CHAYSOL) plant located in Pinto, Madrid specialises in the manufacture of high quality, low pressure direct and belt drive centrifugal fans and fan cabinets. The new facility in Pinto includes 25,000 m2 of factory space and uses state of the art manufacturing technologies"..................... :yinyang:

don't suppose you have a dB reading for it on full blast? *hopefull*

if anything turns up that can run quieter than the td160 i'm sold :stoned:

I don't have a db reading, but will confirm that it would appear to emit about the same amount of noise as a td160 - if you have the filter on one side, and a length of ducting on the outlet, it runs remarkably quietly - throttling back also helps greatly! :stoned:

Whichever fan you choose, you must take great care to get the mounting right - if its just bolted to the framework of your grow area, it'll vibrate like mad - you must isolate it with "bungee cords" or foam rubber, and use some ducting on the "exhaust" :stoned:

if its of any help - the one that I've been fondling is going into quite a small space - as you'll find out, the fan and filter are substantial pieces of equipment........so to save space, and make life generally easier, I've found that you can easily join the two together to give one big unit, which is easy to suspend - the collar of the filter slips over the outlet of the fan - so just drill four equally spaced holes through both, and use four self-tapping screws to attach it securely - a smear of bathroom sealant between the two surfaces helps seal it fully............ :stoned:

it'll vibrate like mad -

mine doesn't vibrate but it whistles like a jet - i thought they all did that.

ps it's a tube fan made by Ruck

isolation is important - with a fan/filter combo you'll get a slight "hiss" as air is drawn through the filter - this is usually unnoticeable with the growroom door closed - the fan itself runs remarkably quietly, but like all powerful fans, there is some "moving air noise" of some sort or another when its full tilt from the outlet end - I've found that even a shortish length of that cheap white placcy ducting quietens it enormously! :stoned:

hi vlad. mine doesn't hiss it screams. could be because i don't use a filter but i think it's coming off the fan blades rather than the moving air. it's not a real problem because of my isolation but it would be nice not to hear it from across the house when i'm trying to get to sleep.

if you've found a quiet one i'll think about changing over.
