passion #1

Hi Tony, has Passion#1 been reworked at all in the last few years as it does not seem to be the plant it was.had very mixed results with it outdoors which is a shame as it used to be a staple for a lot of Guerilla growers in the uk.

Thanks and good luck this subforum is shaping up very nicely, great to get prompt informative responses.

Hi baldur - and thanks for your question.

Passion #1 hasn't changed, it is a stable true breeding variety which we have had and known intimately for a long time. In fact is is our best selling feminized variety and second only to Orange Bud in terms of non-fem seed sales. So we know this variety very well.

I think the mixed results you refer to are more to do with the way Passion#1 handles borderline summer weather in some of the northern euro climates.

We always get great feedback with her in other, more southerly, countries. Passion #1 results in a slightly more potent bud than say Frisian Dew. Yet in the UK many of the guerilla's would probably say that Frisian Dew is better equipped to deal with the vagueries of the UK summers. In some warmer countries, Passsion #1 growers have grown her for years and never tried anything other than Passion #1. Passion #1 is an established favourite in central and southern europe, as is Frisian Dew for northern european growers.

Perhaps Passion #1 simply doesn't have the latitude and robustness that Frisian Dew has when it comes to the UK summers. Some people may get good results with her but on average perhaps Frisian is the more robust.

Unless you are growing in a sheltered location in the very south of the UK, or growing in a greenhouse, then Frisian might be a better choice offering a better chance of doing well even in poor summers. Having said that, Passion#1 does sell well in the UK so some people must be getting good results, perhaps as a reliable greenhouse or polytunnel variety?

Hi Tony I noticed you say that Passion #1 is a stable true breeding variety, Would you suggest this to be the best strain to start a little hacking project with out of the Dutch passion range? I want to try and make my own outdoor cross just for fun really and to try and expand my knowledge of breeding.

Hello Mr Herbert.

Quite a few of our customers play with genetics to make something nice themselves, and why not? We spend all our time doing it so we really can't try to discourage our customers from dabbling themselves. Although we are used to being able to buy seeds in the UK in some countries you can't, so quite a few people have to grow their own bud AND in many cases they have to grow their own seed stash too.

Passion #1 would be a good choice. But in the UK, Frisian seems to be perhaps that little bit more robust when it comes to dealing with sun-free summers, so that might also be worth thinking about.

If you go on our website and look at regular seeds you will see the list of seeds where you can get regular seeds (and therefore male fathers)

One word of caution, it is one thing doing this in a mediterranean country where you can cross anything, and grow just about anything outdoors or under glass. But it gets disproportionately harder to get tight genetic offspring equipped to deal with borderline outdoor weather that the UK offers.

Just a few degrees warmer and a bit more summer sun in the UK would make a world of difference to the uk guerilla. Some of our southern spanish growers are getting ready to slam a few auto's in their greenhouses in the next few weeks, while the UK guerilla is wondering when the ground will be thawed sufficiently to dig manure in. Where is the justice lol
