I think for the extra 10 - 20 day wait is well worth it imo, as with all auto's they have a very short veg period and dont grow so big, so with this we can expect a much larger yield.

Yes they are under 600w dual spec, i'd be happy enough with 2oz per plant but hopefully they will surprise me :guitar:

The smaller one in the pic, is so tightly noded and bud sites are so close, it looks as if the buds will all join and sorta form one big cola from bottom to top of plant, i will try and get a pic up but its really hard to see into the main stem of the plant as its really crowded with bud sites and a lot of leaves also, which i am steadily tucking under to let light in :headpain:

if you wanted to squeeze the best yield you can out of them try tieing the tallest ones down and lowering the light a bit. You can poke a biro sized hole (or even better, drill one) through the rim of your plant pots. Then thread some string thru the hole and tie one end to the plantpot rim and the other to the stem of the tall one. Some times you will need to use a different pot to the one the tallest plant is in. Then slowly, over a few days, bend the lady over and you will see the side buds swell up due to the extra light the side gets.

Some people successfully incline the plant pot at an angle to increase the light at lower levels. (ie find a way to safely balance the plant pot at an angle of say 45 degrees. It is easier with square sided pots than circular ones.)

Yeah i was thinking about doing the same thing, although would it not be too late now as the stems are fairly stiff? i will do a bit more reading on it and watch a few videos.

tieing them is allways worth thinking about if you have a mixture of hights among the plants. But if you don't tie them then another option is raising the hight of the smaller one by eg putting it on a box / stool. Justto try to get all the girls in the sweet spot of the light. Good luck Smoke

Yeah mate i have them all at same height, i used cardboard boxes before and never again, 1 box got damp from bottom of flower pot and it collapsed :wassnnme: and pot fell over, no damage happened thankfully

cheers mate :smokin:

hi tony

how many autofem plants per square metre should i be growing for best results indoors ? i'll be using a 1000w hps in a 1.2 m2 growtent, with automazar or think different seeds.

i'll be trying these out again in guerrilla plots too. last year i grew automazar and blueberry in unprepared plots with some reasonable results - this year i'll put more effort into preparing the soil.

thanks

that sounds like a nice amount of light. In a 1.2 m growroom I might be tempted to go for maybe 5 or 6 and with that amount of light plan for them to get reasonably bushy. You could squeeze more in but I think they do well when they have space to grow out into

Good luck with the outdoor grow as well, if you can get some compost dug in, really dig the soil over and get some fish/blood/bone meal dug in now it will improve your result in the summer. I have found the outdoor grow forums here to be a useful source of info of plot preparation

all the best,

tony

Hello again Tony I promise you I aint following you around but I do like to read up on subjects I know little about and growing auto's is one so I like to see what progress is being made and read the advice given out by the pro's

I am here purely to help folk grow their own and I have to speak up if I see something that dont quite sit right with me and this is another one of those occasions so if you could put me right if I'm wrong that would be good

You said in your opening spiel about auto's that "good growers" were getting around 3oz per plant and the days of piddling yields had gone so I would think it fair to say not so good growers could and probably will get lower but you have advised someone to put 5 auto's in a 1.2 tent with a 1000w light so if he's a good grower he'll get 15oz which is really really poor and a waste of electric. I would be looking for double that

Like I said I know nothing of what auto's can yield but out of a 1000w bulb I myself would be looking for between 28-36oz so each auto would have to be doing at least 5-6oz per plant.

To get the sort of yield with clones for instance in compost I'd be looking for a final pot of at least 15ltrs so my question is can your auto's yield that much and what pot size would you put them in because I would be very dubious about putting a seed into 15ltrs of compost. Does the auto need that space and more importantly can it fill it with roots

I have never grown DP auto's but from my experience of growing Auto's I have found that the Yield works out more like

Using 1x 600w HPS

Autos: 1m squared grow area would give a maximum of 450g

Photo period, 12/12 Strains: 1m Squared grow area would give 450 - 650g

So I would say Auto's give roughly 1/3 less in yield compared to Photo period strains, But I have no experience growing DP Auto's

Hello Owd,

for sure you could get more than the 5 auto's I suggested under a 1000 watter. For a 'personal' grower I was guessing that the grower might prefer a smaller number of (bigger) plants with plenty of room around them to spread out. Perhaps that would allow some 100g+ plants and a decent crop. Under 1000w it is quite possible you would see some reach 150g or more especially in, for example DWC. Maybe it is something we will see soon. I know a couple of guys with really tasty set-up's that have talked about seeing just what kind of efficiencies can be got from auto's. There are two angles to this. Firstly the auto's can photosynthesise for 20 hours per day compared to the 12 hours for traditional photoperiod strains, so some auto-heads feel that there is something of an advantage there to the auto's. Secondly, the latest auto's are in a different league to the first ones that people saw 4 or 5 years ago.

On a personal level I should add a couple of comments of my own. Most of our customers are simply growing enough stash for themselves and some actually prefer NOT to have 'too many' plants on the go. Also, I am not trying to promote auto's over traditional varieties. For me the two types (auto and traditional) sit quite happily side by side. Some customers prefer auto's, some prefer traditional varieties. Each to their own - it depends on the circumstances they have. But you make good points Owd and your questions/comments are welcome!

With all repect that didnt answer my question mate

I was talking pots not dwc

My take on that is that you are having to give a plant 20 hrs to make it flower whereas I give mine only 12 where I think the advantage is mine but we digress as light efficiency is another discussion but I know if you only yield 15oz from under 1000w then I dont think you'll be able to justify any efficiency regarding auto's

I was talking pots and compost which most folk grow auto's in. You cant dictate how big the plant will be when it flowers so you surely you could end up with a plant that is far too small for such a lot of medium and then have the risk of anaerobic soil.

That is why I asked the question on yield per plant, pot size, and root system

Perhaps that would allow some 100g+ plants

So you dont really know if it would for sure?

I am sure Tony can answer for himself :yep:

But if I was to do a grow with a 1000w Lamp then I would use 10 x 11 lt pots and use 10x Auto's to achieve the best yield, I start off with seedling pots, then after 1 week I would move them into 3 litre or 5 litre pots then when the auto's are between 2 and 3 weeks old I would put them in there final pots

I think the best yield would be around 550 to 650 g per square meter using a 1000w lamp under 20/4 light cycle for 8 weeks or even 18/6 if electricity is a concern

Photo Period you could veg your plants for 8 weeks and flower them for 8 weeks. In that same time you could of had 2x Auto Crops

If the Veg time is Shorter for Photo period strains then the Autos work out roughly the same over a longer period of time

But if you just do one Photo period grow and one auto grow next to each other then Yes with out a Doubt Photo Period Strains will be more efficient in one grow, but it works out roughly the same over a year

In Someways its Swing and Round abouts :smokin:
